I also strongly recommend R J Rushdoony's excellent little book Foundations of Social Order. This study on the creeds and counsels of the early church demonstrates time after time the real-world consequences of doctrinal deviations. All that is good in Christendom flows from standard, orthodox, creedal Christianity. Heresies have always been attractive to tyrants.
