Corapi accuser promised to ‘destroy’ priest after being fired: claim [Catholic Caucus]

Fr. John Corapi

KALISPELL, Montana, March 25, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A leader of the company that manages Rev. John Corapi’s media has claimed that the recent accusations against the popular priest were launched by a “disgruntled” former employee who vowed to “destroy” Corapi’s reputation.

Corapi, a well-known Catholic personality and member of the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity (SOLT) who has been extremely outspoken on the life and family issues, has been placed on “administrative leave” in consultation with the diocese of Corpus Christi, Texas, where SOLT is based.

The move was in reaction to a letter by a former employee of the media company sent to several bishops and claiming that Corapi was addicted to drugs and sexually involved with multiple women.

The priest himself announced the allegations in a note on his website, and has said that all the allegations are false.

Bobbi Ruffatto, Vice President of Operations at Santa Cruz Media, Inc., said in a statement Friday that the only evidence against Corapi thus far is “the unsubstantiated rant of a former employee, who, after losing her job with this office, physically assaulted me and another employee and promised to ‘destroy’ Father Corapi.”

Ruffatto notes that Santa Cruz is “a secular corporation and not affiliated with the Catholic Church in any way” and thus not under any bishop’s jurisdiction.

Stating that the company “fully support[s] Rev. John Corapi in this terrible trial,” Ruffatto said company leaders “have consulted with a number of canon lawyers” who have concluded “that the actions of the Bishop of Corpus Christi, Texas are, on several points of canon law, illicit,” although Ruffatto did not elaborate.

In his original note, Fr. Corapi had taken issue with the zero-tolerance policies used by the U.S. bishops to respond to allegations of misbehavior, which he suggested amount to presuming guilt until innocence is proven.

“There seems to no longer be the need for a complaint to be deemed ‘credible’ in order for Church authorities to pull the trigger on the Church’s procedure, which was in recent years crafted to respond to cases of the sexual abuse of minors,” he said.

I truly believe we are going to see that these accusations are malicious lies. I’m not the greatest judge of character, but I got a very different vibe when both Entenuer and Macel were accused. The accusations against Fr. Corapi don’t even sound plausible. As streetwise as he is, they just don’t pass the smell test.

The Father of lies never tires apparently. This stuff is just going to keep increasing. You are right about praying. We all need to be praying for those who preach God’s word.

I agree, especially as I would expect both Fr. Eteneur and Fr. Corapi to be honest men . . . and Fr. Eteneur’s first public statement was a confession and apology (I don’t know Fr. Macel), while Fr. Corapi’s was a statement that the accusations were unfounded.

Prayers for all concerned!

I don’t believe the charges. Satan wants Fr. Corapi discredited one way or another. I’m praying for this to be resolved quickly.

Did y'all catch SNAP's contribution to this issue yesterday?

Here, read this

Excerpt:

"Specifically, we urge Bishop Hubbard to use his vast resources to aggressively seek out anyone who may have suspicions or knowledge of misdeeds by Corapi in the New York area."

This statement implies that not only is Corapi guilty but that there may be other "misdeeds" out there. Gotta love 'em.

Talk about innocent until proven guilty. Right.

The great irony is that they made this appeal to Hubbard, of all people.

Totally unsurprised.

We pray the Rosary every morning after mass. Father is getting a lot of prayers. I know this sounds callous, but for some reason the Lord is permitting him to undergo this test, and it can only strengthen him and draw him closer to Christ. Sometimes even things like this that are meant for evil end up working for good, as per Romans 8:28. It’s happened in my life and in that of many of us who have encountered some awful thing and then found there was a blessing hiding behind the terrible experience.

Back in 2006, another well-known priest, Fr. Altier, was silenced by his bishop. His homilies were orthodox and were published on the internet. Many catholics were up in arms over this, but the priest remained obedient.

I didn’t realize that Fr. Altier’s homilies were archived and online.

I know I was so disappointed when he was silenced.

I have to admit that I’ve grown a bit concerned after learning that Fr. Corapi is President and CEO of Santa Cruz Media. To me, this casts that statement by Santa Cruz Media in a different light.
