Define soul.
I am referring to a spiritual, eternal essence in individuals, not a nation.
The American spirit, on the other hand, is what made us great. It is what allowed us to cross the continent, go to the moon and take our place as a world leader.
Spiritually, that is also our greatest handicap. The same can do spirit that made us great leaves us open to religions like Mormonism. A non-Christian religion that tells us “we can do it, just need to do the best we can.” That attitude has permeated many churches. Osteen is a prime example. “We deserve the best, just grab it!”
I have no problem with Becks politics. But when he trots out a false god and Evangelicals swoon, we are asking God’s judgment on out nation.
All possibly true, but the reality is this is all about the FR anti-Mormon chic.
The Judeo-Christian concepts Thomas Jefferson used as the core of the Declaration of Independence derive from Genesis and Exodus of the Bible, where liberty and equality inescapably freed the Jewish people from their Egyptian bondage, just as the Revolutionary War and the act that led up to it frees us from the UK to become what we did.
Just as the Jews regained their freedom through the liberating authority of God, our founding fathers noticed that freedom from Britain could only come through that same authority; that it was by the grace of God we not only survived the war but did, in fact, gain our freedom, just as the Jews accomplished when they turned to God, not the Golden Calf.
When Christians claim the US was founded on Christian traditions, they are forgetting half the equation, the Judeo- part.
