I'm not even Catholic and I can figure this one out.

At the time of the Last Supper, whether he left early or not, Judas had not yet committed the act of betrayal. Right up until he met Jesus in Gethsemane, he had the opportunity to do it or not.

God does not act like the police in Minority Report.

Excellent point.

I also believe that reading the gospels, it’s clear that Judas wasn’t there at the institution of the Eucharist. But either way, Judas could have repented up until the moment he kissed Christ. Temptation is not the same as sinning.
