re: "In recent years the issue has become more historical than doctrinal, since those who believe in Christ's divinity, whether Eastern or Western Christians, all accept the fact that the Third Person proceeds from the Second as well as the First Person of the Trinity. Given this common faith, the verbal expression has become secondary.

I never uderstood why the Eastern Orthodox laity made such a big deal about the Filioque clause. NOW, in my current experience with Orthodox on FR, they continue to make a big deal out of it, so, I have to disagree with Fr. Harden.

Is it just me?

“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”—John 14:26.

I suppose this could mean that The Holy Spirit is Directly from the Father, given in the NAME of the Son, OR that The Holy Spirit comes FROM the Father and The Son. Either way, it is a tragedy that such hair-splitting has caused a rift in the Body of Christ that has lasted nearly two millennia.
