Lately, there seems to be a lot of conflict on the religion forum. Much of this has been between Catholics, Protestants, and Orthodox. To show that we are all united as Christians and to reduce animosity, I hope we can all agree to one of 4 following statements:
1) I am Catholic. I love Orthodox and Protestant Christians. I consider Orthodox Christians and Protestants to definitely be Christian. All Christians need to work together to defeat our common enemies-- specifically Islam, liberal postmodernism, and totalitarian communism.
2) I am Protestant. I love Orthodox and Catholic Christians. I consider Orthodox Christians and Catholics to definitely be Christian. All Christians need to work together to defeat our common enemies-- specifically Islam, liberal postmodernism, and totalitarian communism.
3) I am an Orthodox Christian. I love Catholic and Protestant Christians. I consider Catholics and Protestants to definitely be Christian. All Christians need to work together to defeat our common enemies-- specifically Islam, liberal postmodernism, and totalitarian communism.
4) I am a non-believer. I love Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant Christians. I consider Orthodox Christians, Catholics, and Protestants to definitely be Christian. All Christians need to work together to defeat our common enemies-- specifically Islam, liberal postmodernism, and totalitarian communism.
I feel confident that most freepers agree to at least one of these statements, even if they do not say so.
If you agree with any of these statements, please feel free to say so.
Thanks!
“Thank God, I’m an atheist” - Luis Bunuel.
“You cannot assess the validity of one’s faith....”
Period.
It’s not our job to be assessing the faith of others.
Each of us answers to the Living God and that keeps us busy enough.
Very personal.
I have to admit, I have a hard time figuring out what religion you adhere to if any.
Very personal
True.
And to be clear, I was not assessing the validity of anyone’s faith.
I can’t believe how far downhill this thread has gone.
Before posting, I thought of making it ecumenical, but decided that would be unnecessary and would be weird having a “vanity” and “ecumenical” in brackets. Guess I was wrong.
Lapsed Christian, I are (RC.)
Are you carrying the torch for someone? You didn’t answer but when into spin.
Thank you for telling. Some trolls on this website refuse to admit what religion they belong to, so it’s refreshing for someone to answer without any hesitation.
We Catholics will gladly welcome you back if you ever want to return :)
No
Show me in the Bible where that criteria is placed upon the followers of Yeshua.
“I would not be surprised if a non-Christian would be turned off to Christianity by this thread.”
Thats an understatement!
I must defer to some more scripture. Suggested reading-
1 Corintians Chapt 1-4
And an obligitory cut and paste from Galations 5
Life by the Spirit
13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free.
But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh[a]; rather,
serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is
fulfilled in keeping this one command: Love your neighbor
as
yourself.[b] 15 If you bite and devour each other, watch
out
or you will be destroyed by each other.
16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify
the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh
desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what
is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each
other, so that you are not to do whatever[c] you want.
18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under
the law.
19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality,
impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
If I had to pick the biggest offense that I believe Jesus Christ would have to these theological mind wresting matches, it is that it bears no fruit in a world full of people in such great peril of destruction in hell.
what happened to you today? I said ‘Mormons, Seventh Day Adventists, Oneness Pentecostals, Unitarian Universalists and the gay denominations like the ECUSA, PCUSA, Methodists, Lutheran denominations are not Christian’. Do you consider Mormons or Adventists to be Christian? Or are gay ‘marriages’ ok according to Rev Quix?
Virtually all the Pentecostals I know are more Biblical than your theology sounds.
Depends . . . I’ve received a surprising number of FREEPMAILS over the years indicating otherwise.
These debates here, so ugly at times, are nothing more to my mind than parlor games for the comfortable in their current lives. Try being uncomfortable, to put it mildly, and a believer. There is no God to be found when you need him the most.
I was talking about oneness Pentecostals. Do you think they are Christian?
That has not been my experience. Perhaps you are not looking in the right places.
And those right places would be?
They believe
1. that Christ came in the flesh.
2. That Salvation is through Christ’s Blood covering their sins and accepting Christ as their Savior.
3. They believe in their heart and confess with their mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord.
What else would you call them?
