Lately, there seems to be a lot of conflict on the religion forum. Much of this has been between Catholics, Protestants, and Orthodox. To show that we are all united as Christians and to reduce animosity, I hope we can all agree to one of 4 following statements:
1) I am Catholic. I love Orthodox and Protestant Christians. I consider Orthodox Christians and Protestants to definitely be Christian. All Christians need to work together to defeat our common enemies-- specifically Islam, liberal postmodernism, and totalitarian communism.
2) I am Protestant. I love Orthodox and Catholic Christians. I consider Orthodox Christians and Catholics to definitely be Christian. All Christians need to work together to defeat our common enemies-- specifically Islam, liberal postmodernism, and totalitarian communism.
3) I am an Orthodox Christian. I love Catholic and Protestant Christians. I consider Catholics and Protestants to definitely be Christian. All Christians need to work together to defeat our common enemies-- specifically Islam, liberal postmodernism, and totalitarian communism.
4) I am a non-believer. I love Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant Christians. I consider Orthodox Christians, Catholics, and Protestants to definitely be Christian. All Christians need to work together to defeat our common enemies-- specifically Islam, liberal postmodernism, and totalitarian communism.
I feel confident that most freepers agree to at least one of these statements, even if they do not say so.
If you agree with any of these statements, please feel free to say so.
Thanks!
“How condescending of you.”
How is that condescending? I am just stating that when Christians discuss with non Christians, that is normally not divisive for Christians.
“For all Catholics complain about judging when they’re on the receiving end, they sure are pretty adept at dishing it out.”
What are you talking about. I have not judged anyone. I have even refrained from stating my opinion on Mormonism, while others have felt very comfortable judging them. I refuse to state my opinion on Mormonism on this thread, not because I am embarrassed about it, but because it could cause more fighting on a thread that was never meant to have antagonism.
“Catholicism is simply a religious system which does not recognize Scripture as the final authority, but rather defers to Rome for that.
In light of that, it is simply not possible that Catholics have the proper criteria, nor the spiritual discernment, to accurately determine the validity of another’s faith.”
At the same time, you give judgment about my faith, when I have refused to judge any faiths on this thread. Also, this has nothing to do with anything else on this thread. Trying to figure out what someone’s faith is is not the same as judging it.
“Anyone who cannot even be sure of his or her own salvation is in no position to pass judgment on another’s.”
When have I ever passed my judgment on another’s salvation? Since I decided not to squabble with other Christians, I will only debate with those who I am not sure whether they are Christian or not. So I will ask you again if you believe that Jesus is 100% God and 100% human, since that is one belief that defines Christianity.
By the way, why do you feel the need to ping so many other people to this exchange. Do you want more people to argue with me.
Those who like to see divisions between Christians do no service to Christianity. I would not be surprised if a non-Christian would be turned off to Christianity by this thread.
“So..you are saying muslims are conservative. In the way we in the USA think of Conservatism? Many muslims appear very devout....”
No
“Do you have examples / stats to prove the following...?”
Yes, but I’d have to take some time to find them.
“I know...anecdotally of course, many Jews and Catholics that go to Church/Temple every week...that aren’t by any means Conservative.”
A correlation does not mean that there are not many exceptions.
“So are your comments based on fact...or your opinions?”
Facts
It is pretty obvious that I was talking about Quix.
I do not need to name names on a thread pleading for Christian unity.
I was reluctant to even mention Quix.
Prove it!
“I asked you for examples....
You said you had them.”
And I pointed you to Quix’s posting history which has many examples.
“False premise.
You cannot assess the validity of one’s faith based on denominational affiliation.
One is not a Christian simply because one attends a church that calls itself *Christian*.
Nor is one a Christian because one is not an atheist, muslim, Hindu, or any other religion. It’s not a default option.”
It was supposed to be assumed that I was talking about ones who are faithful to their religion, not those who are Christian in name only.
Christianity.
I have stated numerous times, beginning in post #1 that I am Catholic.
You said up thread you weren't going to debate / respond to Christians anymore.
Are you now...saying you misspoke?
Oh the webs. Oh the vanity of it all!! Oh the drama!!
Are you "pulling a Con" here?
“Well....the nerve. You threw a football out on the field...and got questions to your comments...and now you are just going to snatch up your football...and go home???”
I asked for unity between Christians and decided not to engage in anything that would encourage division. Makes perfect sense.
“ROFLOL!!”
I’m laughing at how you could have come to such a nonsensical conclusion.
“Pretty much negates anything you’ve said on this thread.”
Not really.
“I don’t believe much of anything you’ve said here.”
What you are saying doesn’t really make any sense at all.
“Been there...done that.”
Again, I have no idea why you are saying these things.
“Adios.....NOOB!!”
I’ve been here less than a month and already make more sense than you. I see why you want to leave. It’s pretty sad when someone’s response is to insult how long someone has been registered for a website.
“Wait!!
You said up thread you weren’t going to debate / respond to Christians anymore.”
I said to those who I know are Christian. I do not know whether you are Christian or not.
“Oh the webs. Oh the vanity of it all!! Oh the drama!!
Are you “pulling a Con” here?”
I’m done responding to you.
Because I'm a bit confused...as you seem to think most generally ( your words I think...or near that..) religious folks are Conservatives.
So...to help me name the Christian religions here in America. Please be specific....
Thanks-
Muslims are fanatically conservative in an anal retentive sort of way. The fact that I would not be very popular in Muslim circles for saying that is very telling. - In countries where they grab the power, it’s “religious freedom for me, but not for thee”. - It varies, from charging “dhimmi” tax if you’re an “infidel” Christian to a very short hop, skip and jump to being arrested, tried by the imams, and EXECUTED for being anything but Muslim.
In the U.S.A., they are using our laws promoting “freedom” to grab power. Britain and other European countries didn’t get on top of it soon enough, and they’re fast being threatened into having to abandon their own laws in favor of Sharia law. - So, it makes perfect sense that American lawmakers in the individual states are alarmed at the Muslim at heart POTUS in the driver’s seat who has behaved himself very unseemly to our allies, while sucking up to the Muslim contingency. Those lawmakers are proposing laws on the books that are meant to prevent Sharia Law from being an eventual replacement of the law of the land. No one is preventing religion; but Islam means “submission”, and brother, they are serious about it. Religion and state haven’t mixed where Christianity are concerned.
But . . . now the Leftists and Liberals in this country who fancy themselves PC champs bow and scrape to the Muslim religion. The Muslim religion, if it gains a foothold on our laws, the homosexuals and feminists will be the first to languish under the bootheel of Sharia Law.
No, not when I die. A resurrection and judgment have to occur. It’s up to God what I become. I only know He is willing to share everything with me.
But I ask again:
Do you believe we are heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ? (Rom. 8:17)
Heirs of what?
Do you believe that we are sons of God, and that when he appears we shall be like him? (1 John 3:2)?
Do you believe that those that overcome will sit with God in His throne? (Rev. 3:21)
According to you....
Most here..probably have concluded you are a nut.
But hey...that's just my opinion....LOL
Do you actually think you are the first noobie to post a vanity 3 minutes after they register here?
Do you think FReepers are that stupid....
Do you even understand why you have received flak?
I'm guessing not...
Good luck...
You have problems. I am done responding to you.
Ahhhhhhhhhh
depending on one’s definitions and sensibilities, of course.
Important points, I think.
I need no telling how bad Islam is.
I was trying to say that the more observant Christians and Jews are, the more conservative they tend to be.
