The first mention of Purgatory in the Bible is in 2 Maccabees 12:46: “Thus he made atonement for the dead that they might be freed from sin.”

In Matthew 5:26 Christ is condemning sin and speaks of liberation only after expiation. “Amen, I say to you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny.”

See also: 1 Corinthians 3:15: “If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.”

Except that the wages of sin is death. The debt we owe is impossible to pay.

So, yeah, in a sense you wouldn't be released until you paid the last penny, but it's an exercise in futility. It can never be paid, thus the soul is doomed to torment for eternity.

Read the rest of the book...As it turns out, they didn't have to pay...Jesus paid it all for them...
