Painting a Bullseye on Damascus? (Dispensational Caucus)

According to Israel National News, Western intelligence agencies have detected another nuclear plant in Syria – in a Damascus suburb. (Keyword: Damascus)

In bible prophecy, Isaiah 17:1, we read of a terrible fate that is to befall the city of Damascus - one so terrible that Damascus will no longer remain a city in its wake. Rather, it will be left a "ruinous heap."

Isaiah 17:1: The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from [being] a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.

While some believe this prophecy to have been fulfilled in the distant past, Damascus is considered by many experts to be the longest continuously inhabited city in the world. Thus, I have long suspected this prophecy holds significance for the future as well.

That Syria has constructed another nuclear plant, after Israel leveled its last known one in September of 2007, comes as no surprise to me. What is striking to me, however, is the Syrians have chosen to place their new facility in perfect position for Israel to bring to Damascus a severe destruction in keeping with Isaiah's prophecy, the fact that Iranian warships recently passed through the Suez Canal en route to Syria only serving to heighten tensions.

Do the Math

Let's do the math on all of this, shall we?

According to United Press International, a U.S. intelligence report indicates Iran has resumed work on obtaining a nuclear weapon, refuting a 2007 report that the Iranians had ceased in their efforts.

Add the new Syrian nuclear facility with Iran's ongoing quest to obtain nuclear weapons as well as the arrival of military vessels from Iran in the Mediterranean en route to Syria and an ominous picture emerges.

Prior to the 2007 Israeli attack on the last Syrian nuclear facility, a ship from North Korea arrived carrying what Israel believed to be nuclear equipment. At a moment like this, one can't help but wonder what may have been onboard the Iranian warships bound for Syria.

Could it be another military showdown is about to occur between Israel and Syria, Iran having played a role in creating the confrontation? No one knows for sure, but a miscalculation on either side of such a conflict could result in a nightmarishly deadly exchange - one that could swiftly add up to the fulfillment of Isaiah 17:1.

That stretches it way passed the breaking point.

There are buildings in Damascus that are older than Islam.

How can one believe only small parts of the Bible, and deny the majority which is prophetic, and still be considered a believer?

I believe in all of it. I just simply don't agree with your interpretation. It is sanctimonious to suggest other Christians are 'less Christian' than I am, so I won't do that like you just did me.

I am not questioning your beliefs but only as you apply them to current events.

This is the issue. Jesus gave us signs to look for which would be occurring around the world right before His return, events which would all be happening at the same time. These events which Jesus told us would happen are all occurring simultaneously, around the globe, at the same time, in our generation.

No one is applying their own "beliefs" to current events; we are witnessing the exact things that Christ said would happen before the seven-year Tribulation period happening right now, in our time.

And the article posted was not "just one website theorizing about something". The prophetic Scripture was included in the article, and the fact that Damascus has nuclear plants and the fact that Iran has docked a warship in a harbor in Damascus, and the fact that Iran has vowed to wipe Israel off the map, could mean that the fulfillment of the Isaiah 17 prophecy is very close to happening.

If you are someone who does not believe prophetic Scripture, then you do not need to be posting on a dispensational caucus. Like I said, you are welcome to start your own thread where like-minded individuals can have your own discussions.

I would hope so ~ in fact, they have a large collection of really old buildings, but is or is not Islam a vast desolate spiritual wasteland ~ and Damascus is the first Christian city reduced by Moslems.

It's never recovered!

If you are someone who does not believe prophetic Scripture...

I believe in prophetic scripture, I just don't believe current events in Damascus have anything to do with this specific prophecy, that's all. I am not against dispensation. Do you guys agree on everything that's posted here? Is this an echo chamber? I get the feeling that you aren't interested in persuading skeptics. That's fine. I'll move on.

And now, with a nuclear plant in the wrong place, and more garbage on the way in the front door fresh from Iran, maybe they’re simply going to turn it into a total wasteland ~ something to “light up the sky with its own green glow” as a warning to others!

This is a caucus thread.

If you don't have dispensational beliefs, then you probably shouldn't be here.

Fine. I’ll ignore anything that’s even remotely religious on FR. Take care.

I never said I didn’t have dispensational beliefs. I only said I didn’t agree with the version of things given in this article.

First, I also have read experts words to the effect that Damascus’ prophesy had been fulfilled.

As far back as 2005, a guy wrote about this (I posted the sit) actually likely happening then (in 2005)... and for us to have lasted for 6 years and it not coming to past, boggles the mind! I have never known the escalation of time events as I have known them in the past 18 months...

I know it’s going to be destroyed and will never be inhabited again after it is. The thing I can’t figure out if it happens before the Trib, during the trib, or at Armageddon. With it being so close to Israel I would think it could be at any time and with the nuke facility there it’s probably going to happen before the Tribulation period during the Ezek 38-39 war.

the fact that Iran has docked a warship in a harbor in Damascus

Is there a harbor in Damascus? On every map I saw it does not look like any harbor is there.

I think the reason why everything is moving so fast goes back to what Jesus said:

Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

and

so, you too, when you see all these things, recognize that He is near, right at the door.

Everything that God does has an appointed time. We are the generation which is beginning to see the signs Christ gave for His return.

Things are falling into place at breakneck speed and will continue to do so. And, these signs are for the Tribulation, and we know that Jesus will remove His church before the Tribulation begins, so based on the Scripture we have been given and the events we see going on around us, we are not long for this earth.

It's impossible to pinpoint because God doesn't give us any hints as to the time of this prophecy's fulfillment.

However, if the facts as presented in the article work out as we could imagine they will based on the Scripture, it could very well be before the Tribulation.

You're right - I should have said Syria, not Damascus specifically.

Actually Damascus is really 7 or so cities on top of one another. It's been destroyed several times, many of which can be considered "ruins" since they are underneath and not inhabited anymore.

That’s what I have been thinking as well.
