Did anyone catch Glenn Beck's show yesterday about the 12th Imam?

I just wanted to know what you all think about Glenn's comparison of the bible's description of the coming of the anti christ and the muslim's focus on increasing chaos to bring back the 12th Imam?

I don’t think Beck has anything to worry about.

The 12th man is usually never needed. Why do Texas A&M fans stubbornly hold onto this tradition??

Oh wait.....

It says 12th IMAM. My bad.

Sorry.... Never mind.

The Mahdi or the 12th Imam is a branch of Shi’ite Islamic belief, not Sunni. The twelvers are the largest branch of the Shi’ites. Khomeini, the founder of present day Islamic Iran was a twelver as are the current leaders of Iran.

While what he represented on his show is a good start he muddles the difference between sunni cultists and shiite culists by lumping them all together.

Islam is not a religion, despite Beck’s statement.

I recommend reading “Allah is Dead. Why Islam is not a religion.” by Rebecca Bynum.

I can’t abide a view or a listen to that dumbass.

To those of us who DO watch, and know Glenn's incredibly hard work for America, you clearly revealed who the actual dumbass is...

Oh yea, dumbasses don't get humor...I'm talking about YOU dumbass!

Glen was very accurate yesterday in describing the last days from the Christian point of view. I had no idea the 12th Imam so closely resembles the Anti-Christ. Very, very creepy.

Was that the Christian Bible or the Joseph Smith translated, new and improved mormon bible?

...”While Glenn Beck often pushes his own mormon religion, he very rarely mentionsw Christianity...

Most of his religious meanderings on Aug 28 was straight from the book of mormon and sermons by past mormon priests and prophets about the mormon version of American history and the early government”...

You know, I have watched Glen for quite a while now and I do not agree with you. I am Christian and if I had not learned from others and from Glen himself, I would not know from the content of his program that he was anything other than Christian. He has described in detail the Christian faith of our Founding Fathers and has talked extensively on John Whitfield’s ministry. I see no conflict there at all.

This is what I don't get about Mormons. I've been told that since I'm not in the "true church" I'm part of the anti christ's church. I have never heard any Mormon point to Islam as being evil, actually I haven't heard a mormon talk forcefully about anything. So it really shocked me to see Glenn go after the muslim's belief in the 12th Imam.

Look, I don't want to be offensive but like I said, it really shocked me to see someone of the Mormon faith take such a bold action like Glenn did. Maybe I haven't been around enough Mormons but the ones I've know are really, really passive when it comes to this kind of stuff. And I've never seen any of them want to engage in this kind of debate.

...”I didnt say that beck doesnt say something true now and again...

I just said he was not the first to say whatever it was...

He copies other people...

Beck is not riding in on a white horse”...

Tennessee Nana..We must not be watching the same Glen Beck. My Glen Beck is original and full of information we cannot get anywhere else on television. He has a research team which is thorough in connecting the dots which no one else is touching, much to the peril of the people of the US. Somehow, I have the feeling that you do not watch Glen very much. Why not try tuning in every day just for a week or so..Open your mind..Follow up what he says with your own research and I’ll bet you will change your mind.

That's what I didn't know. Thanks for pointing that out.

I've notice sometimes Glenn doesn't report everything. I think this topic is too important to try and lump together.

This is what was bothering me. A while back I read a blog that asked Mormon’s how they felt about the mosque being built at ground zero. While there were some mormons against it, others greatly supported it because they were afraid that if we opposed it being built, it it could happen to them. That their temples might be banned from being built somewhere in America.

That really got me. Some of the mormons would side with these Imams because they were afraid that if they didn’t, their temples wouldn’t be built.

So, when I watched Glenn go after the muslims like that, it made me pause. I wouldn’t think a mormon would go after them like that because of the fear of being attacked back. That’s kind of why I asked the group. I wondered what their thoughts were, and what is Glenn doing? Is he under any pressure from his church to stop?

"My faith (Lutheran) teaches that the book of Revelation is apocalyptic literature, not a presentation of concrete things that will happen."

That's interesting because it's certainly not what Luther thought himself.

It has been a while since I have researched it but IIRC the Sunni's also adhere to a Mahdi prophecy, consistent in some but not all of the descriptions of the 12th Imam of the Shia (those Sunni's--a minority BTW--who reject it are called "rejectionists")...and I think that is what Joel Richardson pointed out in the show.

There are many self professed “Christians” that by their deeds and actions aren’t Christian, and many “non-Christians” including Catholics, Protestants, and (gasp) Mormons, who very much are Christian. But that is a different topic.

(Sorry...I just don't see how...
..self-professing polytheists...
...who believe in a man who got the god job...
...and isn't or ever was the Ultimate God...
...yet their fellow temple Mormons will join the god ranks...
...swelling polytheism even more...
...equates in ANY sense of the word, "Christian.")

From an orthodox Christian POV, he was right on— although he failed to mention that the church will not be on earth when the anti-Christ is revealed (at least I didn’t hear it).

Glenn Beck views everything through the narrow vision laid out by mormon doctrine, not an "orthodox Christian POV".

For the mormon view of the Millennium, one should visit the official LDS website in which the official teaching is described. Following is an excerpt. Remember terms "the Church" and "the Gospel", "Celestial kingdom (Heaven)" refer to the mormon church, Heaven and gospel. I encourage reading of the entire article.

Gospel Principles-The Millennium

People on the Earth during the Millennium

A thousand years of peace, love, and joy will begin on the earth at the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. This thousand-year period is called the Millennium. The scriptures and the prophets help us understand what it will be like to live on the earth during the Millennium.

For teachers: The subject of the Millennium sometimes leads people to speculate about ideas that are not found in the scriptures or the teachings of latter-day prophets. As you guide this lesson, be careful to avoid such speculation.

Because of the destruction of the wicked at the Savior’s Second Coming, only righteous people will live on the earth at the beginning of the Millennium. They will be those who have lived virtuous and honest lives. These people will inherit either the terrestrial or celestial kingdom.

During the Millennium, mortals will still live on earth, and they will continue to have children as we do now (see D&C 45:58). Joseph Smith said that immortal beings will frequently visit the earth. These resurrected beings will help with the government and other work. (See Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, sel. Joseph Fielding Smith [1976], 268.)

People will still have their agency, and for a time many will be free to continue with their religions and ideas. Eventually everyone will confess that Jesus Christ is the Savior.

During the Millennium, Jesus will “reign personally upon the earth” (Articles of Faith 1:10). Joseph Smith explained that Jesus will “reign over the Saints and come down and instruct” (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Smith [2007], 258).

The Work of the Church during the Millennium

There will be two great works for members of the Church during the Millennium: temple work and missionary work. Temple work involves the ordinances that are necessary for exaltation. These include baptism, the laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost, and the temple ordinances—the endowment, temple marriage, and the sealing together of family units.

Many people have died without receiving these ordinances. People on the earth must perform these ordinances for them. This work is now being done in the temples of the Lord. There is too much work to finish before the Millennium begins, so it will be completed during that time. Resurrected beings will help us correct the mistakes we have made in doing research concerning our dead ancestors. They will also help us find the information we need to complete our records. (See Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, comp. Bruce R. McConkie, 3 vols. [1954–56], 2:167, 251–52.)

The other great work during the Millennium will be missionary work. The gospel will be taught with great power to all people. Eventually there will be no need to teach others the first principles of the gospel because “they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord”

Righteous Government

President John Taylor taught: “The Lord will be king over all the earth, and all mankind literally under his sovereignty, and every nation under the heavens will have to acknowledge his authority, and bow to his scepter. Those who serve him in righteousness will have communications with God, and with Jesus; will have the ministering of angels, and will know the past, the present, and the future; and other people, who may not yield full obedience to his laws, nor be fully instructed in his covenants, will, nevertheless, have to yield full obedience to his government. For it will be the reign of God upon the earth, and he will enforce his laws, and command that obedience from the nations of the world which is legitimately his right” (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: John Taylor [2001], 225).

At the end of the 1,000 years, Satan will be set free for a short time. Some people will turn away from Heavenly Father. Satan will gather his armies, and Michael (Adam) will gather the hosts of heaven. In this great struggle, Satan and his followers will be cast out forever. The earth will be changed into a celestial kingdom.

Mormon doctrine insists that the "celestial kingdom" can only be inhabited by mormons.

Just remember folks, this is where Beck is coming from.

My faith (Lutheran) teaches that the book of Revelation is apocalyptic literature, not a presentation of concrete things that will happen. The creatures and numbers are symbolic and are to be understood by believers, but remain a mystery to others. We believe we have been in end times since Christ returned to heaven. He will come back again - but only once, not twice like those following Reformed theology believe.

With that background said, I believe the Antichrist (Satan) is always present and a force to be dealt with in then life of a Christian. The forms he takes can be any false god you choose. Some Muslims have chosen to worship the 12th Imam, a false god and therefore a Satanic entity. So yes, the 12th Imam is of the Antichrist.

I think it is very important that we not only understand our own faiths, but that we understand the faith of those in opposition to us. We must understand who the Twelvers think this being is and all the mythology around it so we can understand and predict their behavior.

A very interesting post, thank you.

I can pretty much say without hesitation that the 12thm Imam, the Mahdi, is the Anti-Christ and that Islam is the Church of the Devil.

This nut in Iran will try to bring about WWIII or something very close to it.

I'm really worried for my children's future.
