It would probably depend if those American Indians were converted to orthodox Christianity vs. a syncretized mix of Catholicism and indigenous beliefs.

As far as “syncretized mix of Catholicism and indigenous beliefs” - are not those those Indian “Catholics” no different than the CINO’s today, the cafeteria “Catholics”? Moreover, the Indians picking and choosing and adding what they want, is different than the Protestants, each one his own DIY church, pope, and god.
The syncretized Indian “Catholics”, the CINO “Catholics”, and the DIY YOPIOS Protestants are all the same thing. They could all triple date together! In fact they do, it's called the ecumenistic movement.
