Do you really think it was his (the thiefs) mere utterance of the words that allowed him to be saved, without more? Absolutely and without question.

James is written by the disgruntled brother of Jesus. It is a total contradiction of the Gospel and should be thrown out and has been thrown out by scholars for centuries. James was jealous of Jesus and did everything he could to say he died for nothing. His writings are a joke. Read Jon 3:16 and do it often.

It is a total contradiction of the Gospel and should be thrown outGreat. Now you are arguing that Scripture is full of errors and contardictions.

Once one is saved and as their faith increases the natural outcome is “fruit”....Christ changes the heart, mind and soul. One desires to do what is good and right...as He leads and as we let Him live His life thru us.

You can’t seem to get beyond the labels, can you? What is legalism if not the belief that magic words must be uttered to be saved, and no more? Lawyers counsel their clients to utter magic words in court every day. It doesn’t mean the client actually understands what he is uttering.
To: dinoparty
How could you possibly “understand” or know this?

Read Jon 3:16 and do it often.Where in Scripture does it say John 3:16 is better than James 2:24? or Romans 11:2223?
Seriously, your theology needs to embrace ALL of Scripture, not just the ones your "itching ears" want to hear.

Anyone who thinks we can sin as much as we want and still be saved is stupid. Pure and simple. Who says that?

No bait, just facts. Keep away from them at your own peril.
Luke 23:42-43
42 And he was saying, “Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!” 43 And He said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.”
Jesus hasn’t come in His kingdom. Jesus knew the word for Heaven. He didn’t use it. Paradise isn’t Heaven.
For Christians ignorance is not bliss.

Who says that? Anyone who says "Once saved, Always saved" makes that case.

Luke 18:9-14 He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt: "Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.' But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, a sinner!' I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted."

It is a gift that we dont deserve and cannot earn. Thankfully that's exactly true. Sometimes I just shake my head that my Father in Heaven would love me and want me in heaven despite the absolute worst sinner I know that I am....

I knew you would divert from the topic of the post. So let me refresh your sweet memorey...
Jesus told the thief He would be with Him that very day.....and since it’s written we are immediately in the presence of the Lord at death, of course then so was the thief...and it did not require anything on his part but belief. He acknowleded Christ’s sinlessness...acknowledged his own sinful condition....and then looked to Jesus....simple yes...beautiful..without question.
