Only Humans receive imputed righteousness from believing Jesus is the Son of God. Satan is not human. He knew 2000 years ago that he had screwed up

>>Why is it Cynical we always seem to go around in circles?<<

It’s because we focus from a different direction. You and I may both believe the same thing in our hearts but how we communicate to others is important. I don’t focus on the works because too many people interpret that as “works are needed to earn part of our salvation”.

I try to be very careful to not allow anyone to think that. I don’t want to cause anyone to stumble. I’m not saying you do. With a focus on works, tithes, or any legalistic view I believe that many, if not most, of the churches today, including the RCC are allowing the wrong message to be taken by too many people.

I hope that made sense to you.

Apples and Oranges. You are confusing categories. Prior to the fall Adam and Eve did not require salvation, they had not yet fallen. They were on probation and they sinned. At that point they needed salvation. They didn't follow one simple law. We can't follow any of them.

Okay when you don't have an intelligent answer, just say nothing, you are less likely to embarrass yourself.

They were saved they lost their salvation discussion closed

To quote that goof gamecock, apples and oranges
Adam and Eve were saved, they were in full communion with God at death they would go right to heaven,
They lost their salvation turned from God walked away, say it any way you want. It amounts tot he same thing.

They weren't saved yet as they hadn't sinned, so there was no salvation to *lose*.

Right; so your position is that they were not in communion with God.

when the facts don't fit your scenario make up new ones.

Good plan

I am Lutheran and would completely agree with your post. Faith is a gift of God given through the Holy Spirit through the Word, not anything from ourselves. Faith alone is our salvation.

Works are a result of our faith and completes our sanctification, sanctification can only come after one has salvation.

God Bless

You do make sense.

I think too, that I tend to be on the defense, though not defensive.

As long as we can discuss without acrimony I enjoy hearing your understanding of Scripture. Contrary to commonly held thought here, the Church does not restrict exploration of Scripture.

Obviously as a Catholic, I am firmly rooted in the Catholic understanding. It is not that I am incapable of thinking outside the Catholic box, it is that having accepted the church, I am content to explore within that understanding.

I think too that we are all responsible for our faith and shouldn’t come to church expecting others to take us by the hand and lead us through or to anything.

That is why I enjoy things like this so much.

I have to think, research and put my understanding into words. That way, I know what I believe and why and that gives me confidence and peace.

Ah, but God is good:)

re: “Christians cannot be “perfectly united in mind and thought” when they have different beliefs on, say, the necessity of water baptism, while others believe “This is my Body” means “This is a cookie”

I think as long as we focus on who Christ is and what He accomplished for us on the cross, that He died to take away the guilt of our sin, and rose again from the dead on the third day - that salvation is by faith in Christ alone - not through following the Law, that works are what follows salvation, not the cause of salvation - then, I think we can praise together, fellowship together, and, even serve together in Christ who makes all believers everywhere One in Him.

If we get into baptism, the Eucharist, Transusbstaniation, etc. - while these are certainly important issues and doctrines - let’s leave them alone for now and save them for another discussion. I’m just enjoying this sweet unity among this old Christian who just happens to be Baptist and at least two other devoted Christians who just happen to be Catholic.

As soon as you believe in Jesus (meaning that He is the Son of the almighty God) you are born again. All this junk that you have to flop on your back and jabber like a baby is a hoax to stack something that is not there in John 3:16. All you have to do is believe and you are born into the kingdom of Heaven for eternity.

I don’t think you understand what “born again” means.

If any man is in Christ, he is a new creation. It’s not a matter of saying “Yeah, I’ll try the Jesus thing”. You have to live it.

If any man believes in Him as the Son of God he is a new creation. Tell me what else the criteria might be. Do you have to cry and gnash teeth? There is this shtick that you have to have this overwhelming emotional breakdown. That is nowhere in the Bible. Just believe abd go on with your life.It is about grace— not legalism.

It’s also not about Jesus being your “homeboy” and someone you “hang with”. Simply knowing Jesus is not enough. He has to know YOU.
