Netherlands: Islamic Artwork Called John 'Calvin's Mecca' ...

"Het Mekka van Calvijn" (Calvin's Mecca) is the name of the work created by the Moroccan artist Aziz Bekkaoui. It is a cube measuring 4 by 4 by 4 metres, consisting entirely of reflective glass. The cube apparently refers to the Kaaba, the sacred central building in the courtyard of the Great Mosque in the Islamic place of pilgrimage, Mecca in Saudi Arabia....

As the article says The art work creates a link between Calvin and Islam, Reformatorisch Dagblad newspaper reported yesterday. --> quite incorrectly. There was no link. It seems like Islam is creeping in and sadly taking over the Netherlands, which now has just 1/3rd of the Population who say they are Christians -- only 13% say they are reformed.

Ah yes, the nonexistant link between Calvin and Islam.

makes you wonder what Aziz Bekkaoui the Moroccan artist making the Mecca of Calvin was smoking. Oh wait, marijuana is legal there!

Why would this Dutch authority give the job of creating a sculpture to honor John Calvin - founder of the protestant church in the Netherlands - to a Muslim Moroccan immigrant - he's created a Calvin statue with an Islamic Kaaba (black stone of worship in Mecca) attached to it!! I suppose this artist wouldn't mind if we whipped out our pictures of the Prophet Muhammed - perhaps one with Muhammad wearing a Christian cross - if we want to get creative - bowing down in front of a Christian altar.

So the Netherlands govt. is behind this? Maybe they should act more like the Catholic Church in Poland does, and hold an ecumenical "Islam Day", which it's done for eleven years now!
