Orthodox rabbi teaches what it's like to be gay

Steven Greenberg was a 20-year-old Orthodox rabbinic student from Ohio, studying in Jerusalem, when he realized his affections were "ripping me apart." So he visited a sage, an esteemed interpreter of Jewish law.

"Master, I am attracted to both men and women," he told Rabbi Yosef Sholom Eliashiv. "What shall I do?"

The ultra-Orthodox Eliashiv's answer came as a surprise.

"My dear one, my friend, you have twice the power of love," the aged rabbi told him. "Use it carefully."

Stunned, Greenberg beseeched him to elaborate. But Eliashiv simply smiled and replied, "There is nothing more to say."

Good grief. Perversion is twice the power of evil, not love.

And there is nothing “orthodox” about this rabbi.

So, a shepherd who sodomizes his shepp herd could have hundred of times the power of love?

So basically, the Rabbi hung the guy out to dry without giving him any real direction on what the scriptures say regarding Greenberg’s situation. Useless.

"My dear one, my friend, you have twice the power of love," the aged rabbi told him. "Use it carefully." Speaking of which, continued the horny aged rabbi, are you available Friday night to see a show, dinner?

You are kind of cute.

Twice the power of lechery.

Rabbi Eliashev is one of a number of aged, reclusive rabbis who are slandered with false quotes by secular news media. I will furnish an update.

That isn't right what he did, especially since homosexuality is prohibited in the Torah*.

Is a sex addiction/perversion really love? What Orthodox Rabbi would say such a thing?

This is a rough day to be a Jew. First the phony “Jews” who attacked Glenn Beck, and now the phony JINO fag trying to rationalize his perversions instead of trying to get help for them.

You mean to say that the media were not really quoting an Orthodox Rabbi but, instead, channeling Woody Allen?

How do you answer someone asking a dishonest question?

But perhaps the question is honest — yet that it made public notice suggests it was not.

In any case the Rabbi’s answer is very Buddhist. Zen almost. Totally Jewish too.

Maybe the answer is made up by the pro gayrights media. I can't imagine any Orthodox Rabbi channeling Woody Allen instead of quoting the Torah and moving from that basis.

...Three anti-gay protests held in Jerusalem to counter Thursday’s Pride Parade...

...Another protest was being held at Shabbat Square, next to the haredi neighborhood of Mea Shearim, at the behest of Lithuanian Rabbi Yosef Elyashiv...

In Bizarro land, sure. Or hell I suppose.

This one is my favorite:

'Beast parade' held in Jerusalem Haredim, extreme right-wing activists take to streets [2006] with parade of their own in protest of planned pride rally scheduled for Friday. During 'beast parade,' which follows same route as pride parade, protestors accompanied by goats, donkeys. Itamar Ben-Gvir: At least these animals haven't sinned
Aviram Zino

To each his own pride: The "beast parade" was held Thursday afternoon in Jerusalem as part of the protest parades against the mass event planned by the gay-lesbian community slated to take place Friday in the city.

Furthermore, haredim threw stones at drivers on a highway near Givat Shmuel. Traffic was not disrupted.

The "beast parade" in Jerusalem was started by hundreds of haredim and extreme right-wing activists.

They were accompanied by goats and donkeys and carried signs saying "Jerusalem, I am outraged" and "Enough uncleanliness" in the Rose Garden across from the Knesset compound, the location from which the pride parade is scheduled to embark Friday.

In the meantime, in light of increased security warnings and a heavy workload for the police, the parade organizers from the gay rights organization Open House said they are willing to hold the event in a closed facility, without a parade.

Among the protest marchers Thursday was Itamar Ben-Gvir, an extreme right-wing activist, who filed a petition against the pride parade in the High Court of Justice. "Even if the parade is authorized in a closed location, this, ultimately, is a victory for us," he said to Ynet.

About the beasts marching along with him Thursday, he claims, have a clear advantage over the participants of Friday's parade: "They, alas, haven't committed any sin."

The "beast parade" commenced after the High Court rejected the petition of animal rights group Let Animals Live against exploiting animals.

The protestors mentioned that they intend to protest the pride event Friday even if it will be without a parade. "As the hours pass, the protest gains momentum," said one of them.

In the Palestinian Authority there are also concerns about "defiling Jerusalem." In a press conference in Hebron, Sheikh Abu Sneineh and Azmi Shiukhi, prominent Fatah activists in the city, warned against the "moral massacre" about to take place in Jerusalem

"The occupation hurts al-Aqsa and us but gives foreign anarchists defense and protection to march in the streets of the city. This is a cancer whose objective is to destroy the Islamic nation through humiliating Jerusalem by demonstrating the perversions of gays and lesbians. The world must unite against this ugly, unprecedented crime," the sheikh said.

hehe

http://www.haaretz.com/print-edition/news/shas-mk-gay-pride-parade-a-parade-of-swine-on-temple-mount-1.192213

...Outside the Knesset, ultra-Orthodox circles launched their campaign against the parade yesterday, although plans to hold it this year in Jerusalem have been known for a while. Haredi leader Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv and the Gerer Rebbe, patrons of the United Torah Judaism party, instructed their MKs to prepare a no-confidence motion against the government for not preventing the parade. The motion is likely not to prevent the parade, but the rabbis’ public move is politically significant, because it paves the way for waging an institutional campaign against the event. Leading rabbis ad previously had refrained from commenting publicly on the matter.

Given the rabbis’ comments, Haredi politicians have begun to step up their efforts. Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski, an envoy of Elyashiv, met with the Vatican’s representative this week to issue a joint statement against the “abomination event.”

Greenberg notes that Eliashiv’s comment was not meant to endorse homosexuality, nor to imply that there is no conflict between homosexuality and Orthodox Judaism (the vast majority of Orthodox sages and laypeople believe there is). On the contrary, the point of the story, and the significance of Eliashiv’s reported response, is that it is possible for religious Jews to have compassion and empathy for Jews struggling to remain frum and who have homosexual urges.
