Marriott board helps fellow Mormon Romney -- gives up porn
RenewAmerica ^ | January 24, 2011 | Bryan Fischer

First, Mitt Romney resigned from the board of Marriott, after serving for many years while the hotel chain made millions and millions of dollars from in-room porn. There is no evidence that Romney complained about the practice when he was in a position to do something about it, despite the fact that pornography is contrary to the values of the Mormon church.

Romney, who has been desperately and unpersuasively trying to pass himself off as a champion of conservative moral values after supporting abortion for most of his political career and single-handedly legalizing homosexual marriage in Massachusetts, had been rightly criticized for looking the other way while the fellow Mormons who dominate the Marriott board made a killing preying on the moral weakness of its guests.

Now the board, in what appears to be a transparent attempt to boost Mitt's chances in 2012, has decided to drop porn from its new properties, and intends to phase out porn in existing hotels starting in 2013. That's a convenient date — if Romney fails in his White House bid, the board can phase it right back in.

Romney is polling well right now, but is avoiding the Tea Party like the bubonic plague. He doesn't want to get anywhere near them, and he doesn't want them to get anywhere near him. His conversion to social conservatism smacks of convenience rather than conviction. Mitt's problem is not that he's a Mormon; it's that he's not Mormon enough. Bottom line: Romney has no credibility on social issues. Are Republican voters paying attention?

So Romney is trying to capitalize off of what was a business decision.

Marriott’s just tired of writing-off all those porn movies that got charged to rooms by accident when someone sat on the remote control. Besides, they’ll have internet porn.

I won’t be voting for Mitt in the primaries, but if he’s the reason Marriot dropped porn, then hallelujah! God works in mysterious ways.

That opportunistic socialist fraud Willard would sell is mother if it would get him a few votes.

Well, now that I know they’re Mormon-run and Willard was on the board....Marriott is off my list for good. It’ll be Westin from now on when I travel.

I don’t see the Romny connection to Marriot’s decision. How do Marriot’s actions benefit Romney? I see no reason to think that those voters who like what Marriot did are going to link te decision to Romney.

single-handedly legalizing homosexual marriage in Massachusetts

I hold no brief for Romney, largely for these sorts of liberalities and flipflops, but I can't go THAT far. I thought the state supreme court did this one??

With you on this.

This is a stretch.

And, dropping porn is most likely a result of increased Internet access (and at no cost for many).

This article is silly.

Like so much corporate posturing, this is really a no-brainer. The Mormons on the board can take credit for acting more ‘Christian-like’ by dumping a service that has been outstripped in popularity by internet pornography. I would be willing to bet that in their main-brand chains, they will retain their $10/day (or higher) internet access fees, thereby retaining an ancillary service that can be used for BOTH business and pleasure.

The odd thing is that they aren’t doing it right away and making a big splash now; it may be that contracts exist with the provider that cannot easily be exited. The point about Mittens nomination failure causing them to recant may also be a salient one.

And after the great success of RomneyCare, no fiscal credibility either.

A very well rounded HYPOCRITE !

The anti-Romney argument is that he went beyond what the court decision required and took pro-active steps to ensure "gay marriage" would commence. See here for one example of the argument.

" The Court ruling simply advised the Legislature to pass legislation codifying its opinion on changing the marriage statutes. Romney was NOT bound to enforce same-sex marriages prior to legislative action. Yet Romney jumped the gun and needlessly advanced the homosexual agenda by granting the marriage rights without a fight."

Not an expert on the matter myself.

Romney is trying to avoid the porn issue that dogged him in the last campaign.

Porn pimp:

“It’s a great privilege to be asked to rejoin the Marriott board and I look forward to serving once again in that capacity.”
