Alex, c'mon. Read in context. Define "fundamentalist". Define "theocrat". Explain why the adjectives should not be viewed as offensive when applied to Protestants.

Missing the whole point to a truly stunning degree, hmmm?
Do you seriously want to claim that there aren't people in the Christian Right whom the Left fears and hates, and would (or do) brand "fundamentalist" and "theocratic", and that those are just terms Zmirak is throwing out to insult Protestants?
In fact, I'll see you and raise you. I know for a fact that there are leftists who think I'm "fundamentalist" and "theocratic" (not to mention "ignorant").
Zmirak's not insulting Protestants. He's calling leftists hypocrites.

Like Mrs. Don-o says — don’t you get it that the article is looking at Obama and saying what would happen if this would have been said about a Republican?
Or are you just being obostinate?

"Define "fundamentalist". Define "theocrat". Explain why the adjectives should not be viewed as offensive when applied to Protestants."Oh, they would be! They would be, if
- the Protestant in question were neither a fundamentalist nor a theocrat; or
- if Zmirak were writing a straight description, i.e. his own Aspergers-Spectrum-Literal viewpoint.
Here these conditions are not met because
- the "Protestant in question" is a fictitious character who has these characteristics because he is a fiction, a cartoon, and
- an absurd figure is being constructed to make an ironic point: it's deliberately set up to elicit a "why, that's bullshit" response from the discerning reader.
In other words: Zmirak knows his readers recognize "fundamentalist Protestant theocrat" as a caricature. He assumes you and he would both agree that it's over-the-top.
Are you a discerning reader?
