“Only Mormons believe this nonsense”

I believe that many Mormons don’t believe it either. They just don’t know a way out.

Whether they BELIEVE it or not; they canNOT defend it!

Many do, they just lack the fortitude to turn the door handle to freedom because they’re hung up on what others will “think” of them if the quit.

The social ostracization by mormons [especially family] of ex-mormons is real. That fear stops many from leaving.

I’m here to tell any of you thinking about leaving mormonism, just DO IT! You will find out who cares for you and who doesn’t. Whether or not their love and caring for you was predicated solely upon your membership in the church.

If your family is sincere, they WILL accept your decision. Mormons believe in “free agency” right? Well, tell them you’re exercising yours.

IMHO this is so true. Many are cradle Mormons; that’s all they know. But I know several that just sigh and shrug when I ask about the gold plates, and concede that it is just Harry Potter 200 years too soon.

The “keeping of records” is also a mind game that many find uncomfortable. In the past it was argued as a way to keep records of one’s lineage. Now you can do the same thing in 15 minutes on the web; its just a way they can keep track of your whereabouts.
