Priest finds love with wife, loses affinity for the Catholic church

The Rev. Albert Cutie saw a lot of things in his 14 years as a Catholic priest while church officials looked the other way: priests who got caught with prostitutes, priests who lived with their gay partners, and men of the cloth who kept one bed in the rectory and another with their mistress.

"In the Roman Catholic Church, a scandal is not really a scandal until it becomes public," Cutie writes in his new book, Dilemma: A Priest's Struggle with Faith and Love.

Here's a few you conveniently omitted:

"Who said to them: All men take not this word, but they to whom it is given. For there are eunuchs, who were born so from their mother's womb: and there are eunuchs, who were made so by men: and there are eunuchs, who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven. He that can take, let him take it." Matthew 19:11-12

"Then Peter answering, said to Him: Behold we have left all things, and have followed thee: what therefore shall we have? And Jesus said to them: Amen, I say to you, that you, who have followed Me, in the regeneration, when the Son of man shall sit on the seat of His majesty, you also shall sit on twelve seats judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And every one that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands for My name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall possess life everlasting. And many that are first, shall be last: and the last shall be first." Matthew 19:27-30

"Then Peter said: Behold, we have left all things, and have followed thee. Who said to them: Amen, I say to you, there is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake, Who shall not receive much more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting." Luke 18:28-30

"But I would have you to be without solicitude. He that is without a wife, is solicitous for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please God. But he that is with a wife, is solicitous for the things of the world, how he may please his wife: and he is divided. And the unmarried woman and the virgin thinketh on the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit. But she that is married thinketh on the things of the world, how she may please her husband. And this I speak for your profit: not to cast a snare upon you; but for that which is decent, and which may give you power to attend upon the Lord, without impediment." 1 Corinthians 7:32-35

Actually, this is a tale of LOVE conquering all

Actually, this is a tale of infidelity and moral relativism.

The real religion of LOVE has vanquished the warped un-natural conventions of a church.

Be sure and use the "un-natural conventions" defense while arguing your case before the Almighty during your particular judgment that you're right and He's wrong.

do away with the manmade requirement for celebacy(sic)

Better brush up on Scripture.

Just thinkin' out loud....

Think quietly. That way you won't publicly expose your ignorance.

even the apostles were married...

Other than St. Peter, who was married at one time, there is no evidence in Scripture that any of the other 11 were married.

He committed no offenses to GOD....

Breaking the Sixth Commandment along with the vows he took upon his ordination are "no offenses to God"? You've got a warped sense of right and wrong, kid.

I just think that expecting a man to remain celibate for life, is just setting a lot of men up for failure.

A lot of men aren't called to the consecrated life. That's why the formation process is such a lengthy one. However, your rationalization is the same used by many married men to justify engaging in infidelity. After all, monogamy is a lot to ask of someone who can't or won't control his libido.

However, no one should be surprised when a good amount of them break this vow.

Quantify "a good amount".

If ordaining married men would be the panacea you claim then why is there a shortage of Priests in the 21 Churches in the Eastern Rites as well as the Greek Orthodox Church?

I claim nothing of the sort. If you read the paragraph below it does not mention numbers only quality. Shortages will continue as the old habits and superstitions gradually lose their appeal.

"Everything would be much better if marriage were allowed as it is in the Eastern rite, which is under the Pope. It would certainly draw more normal men to the church than currently and attract less of those with conflicted sexual urges or the sexually disordered to a life of enforced religious celibacy."

>>A lot of men aren't called to the consecrated life.<<

True, but they are men all the same. It's funny that so many keep bringing up marriage fidelity, when a reported 70% of married men cheat. I'm sure not rationalizing or condoning this behavior. I'm just stating the unfortunate facts.

>>Quantify “a good amount”.<<

I'm no expert, but the few polls and books that have been written put the number anywhere from 20 to 50 percent. I would guess that it is probably somewhere in the middle.

1 Cor 9:5 Have we not power to lead about a sister , a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?
KJV

Mark 1:29-30 And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30 But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her

If this Priest repented to GOD for his breaking of celibacy then I see no offense to GOD....Jesus said the only sin not forgiven is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, I do not see this Man breaking that commandment....
