The Rev. Albert Cutie saw a lot of things in his 14 years as a Catholic priest while church officials looked the other way: priests who got caught with prostitutes, priests who lived with their gay partners, and men of the cloth who kept one bed in the rectory and another with their mistress.

"In the Roman Catholic Church, a scandal is not really a scandal until it becomes public," Cutie writes in his new book, Dilemma: A Priest's Struggle with Faith and Love.

Great salvo however it was a dud since you’ll never find me defending or supporting a televangelist.

Factually speaking, he’s not faithless.

Agreed. There are many many priests who live their faith everyday and are celibate. They do a great deal more good in our society than bad.

The problem is that both were already married. Lots of people who commit adultery end up married to each other. Good thing these guys have remained faithful.

...there are more than enough others around that will give cover or excuses for it.

The religious mindset is to condemn others and make excuses for its own. Failing that they will they will take fall back position of victim-hood.

Actually, this is a tale of LOVE conquering all - a really hearting story demonstrating that love is more powerful than dogma, conditioning or fear.

The real religion of LOVE has vanquished the warped un-natural conventions of a church.

Viva l'amore

You know what I find disgusting? There’s another thread about a college forcing nursing students to participate abortion. Instead of offering supportive comments of support for the fellow Christians who are having their religious freedoms violated, I see supposed christians using this thread to bash Catholics. Like it or not, Catholics are your brothers in Christ. Get over it.

That has to be the sexiest picture ever posted on a religion thread. And no, I'm not complaining. Here's a modest version.

You wouldn't find my name among them. Abortion is one of the few items that the Catholic church and I are in in perfect lockstep about and I appreciate their unyielding pro-life fight.

Wouldn't that be brothers in Mary? ;-)

At least the Devil makes his followers pretty and handsome, perhaps his opposite number should take note.

I believe it’s a step in the right direction. A priest was attracted to a female and she was over the age of 18! Maybe two steps in the right direction! :)

Naturally he converts to the Episcopal Church where anything goes to become a priest there. I guess he will feel more at home so he won’t bound by those “annoying” commitments and vows in his old church.

Don't remember saying you would.

A scandal is always, by definition, “public”. Singling out the Catholic Church is a cheap shot. All scandals, whether they take place in Barney Frank's or Chris Dodd’s offices, Bill Clinton's Oval Office, the steroid/growth hormone departments of professional sports, or anywhere else.

Cutie? What kind of name is that?

The difference is that of de facto and de jure, but you knew that and I’m sure it was just an attempt an humor and not a statement made out of ignorance.
