Asia Bibi is a 45-year-old christian mother of five, living in Pakistan, who has been sentenced to death under Pakistan’s blasphemy laws.
Her troubles began when she drank water out of communal cup and offered some to her Muslim neighbors as they did field work together. The Muslim women became indignant, believing that she had defiled the water, being a christian.
An argument ensued, in which she confessed her faith, and in the process, exposed herself to “blasphemy” charges. Within a few days the accusation spread through the village, allegedly a mob of locals assaulted her (in the name of Allah, of course), she was arrested and has languished in prison for 16 months.
She has been convicted of Blasphemy and sentenced to hang for her crime.
Enter Punjabi Governor Salmaan Taseer, who upon hearing of her plight, publicly criticized the conviction, the sentence and even the Law. He inquired of her and actually visited her in prison, and sought legal recourse for her.
He assured CNN that the current President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zaedari ,would pardon her,
Islambad, Pakistan (CNN) — Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari will pardon a Christian woman sentenced to death for blasphemy, the governor of Punjab state told CNN Tuesday.
“What basically he’s made it clear is that she’s not going to be a victim of this law,” Gov. Salman Taseer told CNN International’s “Connect the World” program.
“I mean, he’s a liberal, modern-minded president and he’s not going to see a poor woman like this targeted and executed. … It’s just not going to happen,” Taseer said.

But where ever spiritual darkness reigns, no good deed goes unpunished.
Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri is an Islamist who infiltrated the ranks of Pakistani police and was assigned to the Governor as a body guard. He took the opportunity to murder the Governor, shooting him 40 times. To date there has not been found a Muslim cleric to perform a funeral for the Governor.
Qadri is unrepentant, believing the murder to be his duty as a Muslim. He declared the Governor to be as guilty as Bibi, and at his arrest,was quoted as saying”this is the punishment for a blasphemer”.
Here is where it really gets crazy. Qadri is now being treated as a celebrity in Pakistan. A Briefly a Facebook page was opened for him, which attracted thousands of ‘friends’ almost instantly. Thousands were there to greet and cheer him at his arrival to be detained.”Moderate” clerics in Pakistan are giving him full support.
Jonah Goldberg reported in a National Review article,
“A group of more than 500 leading Muslim scholars, representing what the Associated Press describes as a “moderate school of Islam” and the British Guardian calls the “mainstream religious organizations” in Pakistan not only celebrated the murder, but warned that no Muslim should mourn Taseer’s murder or pray for him.
They even went so far as to warn government officials and journalists that the “supporter is as equally guilty as one who committed blasphemy,” and so therefore they should all take “a lesson from the exemplary death” of Salman Taseer.”
Who Are the Real Hijackers of Islam ?
Asia has been languishing in prison for 16 months, awaiting her fate. Terrorist groups in Pakistan have already announced that they would launch suicide missions to avenge this insult to the “prophet” Mohammed.
This whole troubling story raises so many serious issues;
If she is ever pardoned where could she go to find refuge in a nation where most people wildly celebrate the treachery of the ‘body-gaurd’ ? What becomes of her children in a village that has already so betrayed this mother?
What kind of religion is this, where pious mobs of village men, assault a mother of five, then have her arrested, and rejoice in the prospect of her hanging?How does a treacherous murderer become a folk hero, celebrated and applauded for decieving and slaying a Governor for trying to show compassion and justice?
Could it be that this ignorant and barbaric nation has Nuclear Weapons at it’s disposal?
Finally in closing lets be praying for Asia and her children. God knows what is happening, He takes note, Choice saints have always had to walk this way,as Hebrews 11 points out.

Her case and so many others where Christians are persecuted for believing The Gospel and preaching Christ crucified shows us how little things have changed in 2,000 years. The enemy behind this is the same one using lost pagans just as he has always done.
I think the news isn't all bad. In the murder of Tasser we see a non Christian who is killed because he was repulsed by the evil. IOW, there is a group of non Christians who see the persecution and know it is wrong.
The house church movement in China is estimated to be about 150 million strong. In southeast Asia no matter how hard they try to stop it Christianity is growing. In India, Pakistan, Nepal and the muslim middle east you can see they are losing control by how evil their response is to someone saying Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior.
Can we please start bombing Mecca now?
I am truly saddened by this whole scenario. We in this country have never known what it meant to suffer for our faith. Oh we have people make fun of us and curse us and we soothe out hurt feeling by saying we endured our “persection”

Hi Bill, Your article is so true. That poor woman. May God comfort her and sustain her, and her family. What a blasphemy Islam is! An affront to every honest, perceptive, caring person. BUT, THE WORD encourages us as it tells us what happens in the end when the Lord Jesus returns to this planet. May God help those encapsulated in Islam who have a consicence and who seek the truth!
”Moderate” clerics in Pakistan are giving him (Murderer Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri) full support.We always hear that most Muslims are moderate, not the radical Islamic types.
In predominately Islamic countries, almost all Muslims toe the line of the Koran's barbaric Sharia law.
They can't even bury the murdered man, or the people that do will be defiled and need to be killed.
