Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Book of Proverbs
Chapter 23

1. When you sit down to eat with a ruler,
Consider carefully what is before you;
2. And put a knife to your throat
If you are a man given to appetite.
3. Do not desire his delicacies,
For they are deceptive food.
4. Do not overwork to be rich;
Because of your own understanding, cease!
5. Will you set your eyes on that which is not?
For riches certainly make themselves wings;
They fly away like an eagle toward heaven.
6. Do not eat the bread of a miser,
Nor desire his delicacies;
7. For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.

“ Eat and drink!” he says to you,
But his heart is not with you.
8. The morsel you have eaten, you will vomit up,
And waste your pleasant words.
9. Do not speak in the hearing of a fool,
For he will despise the wisdom of your words.
10. Do not remove the ancient landmark,
Nor enter the fields of the fatherless;
11. For their Redeemer is mighty;
He will plead their cause against you.
12. Apply your heart to instruction,
And your ears to words of knowledge.

13. Do not withhold correction from a child,
For if you beat him with a rod, he will not die.
14. You shall beat him with a rod,
And deliver his soul from hell.
15. My son, if your heart is wise,
My heart will rejoice—indeed, I myself;
16. Yes, my inmost being will rejoice
When your lips speak right things.
17. Do not let your heart envy sinners,
But be zealous for the fear of the LORD all the day;
18. For surely there is a hereafter,
And your hope will not be cut off.
19. Hear, my son, and be wise;
And guide your heart in the way.
20. Do not mix with winebibbers,
Or with gluttonous eaters of meat;
21. For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty,
And drowsiness will clothe a man with rags.
22. Listen to your father who begot you,
And do not despise your mother when she is old.
23. Buy the truth, and do not sell it,
Also wisdom and instruction and understanding.
24. The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice,
And he who begets a wise child will delight in him.
25. Let your father and your mother be glad,
And let her who bore you rejoice.
26. My son, give me your heart,
And let your eyes observe my ways.
27. For a harlot is a deep pit,
And a seductress is a narrow well.
28. She also lies in wait as for a victim,
And increases the unfaithful among men.
29. Who has woe?
Who has sorrow?
Who has contentions?
Who has complaints?
Who has wounds without cause?
Who has redness of eyes?
30. Those who linger long at the wine,
Those who go in search of mixed wine.
31. Do not look on the wine when it is red,
When it sparkles in the cup,
When it swirls around smoothly;
32. At the last it bites like a serpent,
And stings like a viper.
33. Your eyes will see strange things,
And your heart will utter perverse things.
34. Yes, you will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea,
Or like one who lies at the top of the mast, saying:
"They have struck me, but I was not hurt;
They have beaten me, but I did not feel it.
When shall I awake, that I may seek another drink?"

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
How Hallowed,
Magnificent,
and Sanctified
is Your Most Holy Name!
How Blessed and How True is Your Word,
and How Mighty!
How Glorious,
to Span the Millennia,
To be Unfettered by Time and Space,
To Know The End from the Beginning
and the beginning from The End!
For it is You, Oh LORD,
Who designed the Galaxies with Your Compass,
And Mapped Out the Vast Reaches of Space
With Your Word and Your Omniscient Imagination!
Scientists tell us even the heavens are finite.
But YOU are Infinite!
LORD, remind us ALWAYS to Worship You,
and not Your Creation.
Your creation is there but to proclaim YOUR GLORY.
Hallelujah and Amen.

Teach Us To Look Only To You For Our help,
And not to any human agency.
Thank You For this Difficult and Convicting Chapter of Proverbs.
Help us accept our food from You with praise and thanksgiving,
And even in a time of bounty, not to overindulge.
Teach us to be moderate in our consumption of food and beverages,
So that we do not bring ill health or shame to Your Temple,
Which is our body.

We Thank You For the Jewish People.
Who in spite of Exile and Dispersions,
Persecutions and Expulsions,
Pogroms and Holocaust,
Have managed to survive to this day.

We Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem,
According to your Will and Promise.
We Pray for the Citizens of Israel,
that they can live in their neighborhoods
without having to worry about rockets hitting their children.

We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Did King Solomon have me in mind when he penned these words?
I confess to you all...I LOVE Food. Sometimes I feel like I am on a "seafood diet"...I SEE Food and I want it.
Psychiatrists will probably analyze this as coming from some imagined childhood trauma, but the Bible calls it Gluttony, and St. Thomas Aquinas included in his "Seven Deadly Sins" discussion.
It kills the body, which is a gift from God, and His Temple, by causing Obesity, Diabetes, Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure, and other ailments, not to mention an aesthetic problem as well.
Food is Good. We were given dominion over the Earth.
Wine is fine; St. Paul recommended it for stomach ailments, and I am sure that was not "Grape Juice" at The Marriage Feast at Cana.
The SIN is in Overindulgence, and making food or drink MORE IMPORTANT than the precious Gift of LIFE Our Father has given us.
This, of course, is my own interpretation of this Chapter, and there will be those who violently disagree me on the "wine" part.
St. Paul addressed this as well. If it makes you, or a fellow believer stumble, then Don't Do it!

The same can be said for the "Rod of Discipline" portion. When appropriate punishment is meted out with loving correction in mind, it is a vastly different thing than abuse, which is born of ANGER and violence. It is the selfish indulgence in Anger that makes it a sin.

Anyway, that's what I got from this Passage Today. Your results may vary. :-)

Come and Pray for The Peace of Jerusalem, For America, and For Ourselves, that we may not fall into Temptation.

The battle is still raging and the most powerful weapon will be used until ordered to cease.

Psalm 94

God the Avenger of the Righteous

1 O Lord, you God of vengeance,
you God of vengeance, shine forth!
2 Rise up, O judge of the earth;
give to the proud what they deserve!
3 O Lord, how long shall the wicked,
how long shall the wicked exult?

4 They pour out their arrogant words;
all the evildoers boast.
5 They crush your people, O Lord,
and afflict your heritage.
6 They kill the widow and the stranger,
they murder the orphan,
7 and they say, ‘The Lord does not see;
the God of Jacob does not perceive.’

8 Understand, O dullest of the people;
fools, when will you be wise?
9 He who planted the ear, does he not hear?
He who formed the eye, does he not see?
10 He who disciplines the nations,
he who teaches knowledge to humankind,
does he not chastise?
11 The Lord knows our thoughts,*
that they are but an empty breath.

12 Happy are those whom you discipline, O Lord,
and whom you teach out of your law,
13 giving them respite from days of trouble,
until a pit is dug for the wicked.
14 For the Lord will not forsake his people;
he will not abandon his heritage;
15 for justice will return to the righteous,
and all the upright in heart will follow it.

16 Who rises up for me against the wicked?
Who stands up for me against evildoers?
17 If the Lord had not been my help,
my soul would soon have lived in the land of silence.
18 When I thought, ‘My foot is slipping’,
your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up.
19 When the cares of my heart are many,
your consolations cheer my soul.
20 Can wicked rulers be allied with you,
those who contrive mischief by statute?
21 They band together against the life of the righteous,
and condemn the innocent to death.
22 But the Lord has become my stronghold,
and my God the rock of my refuge.
23 He will repay them for their iniquity
and wipe them out for their wickedness;
the Lord our God will wipe them out.

Heavenly Father may you continue to bring an overwhelming, crushing defeat on the forces of darkness in our nation, may you smash every crooked deed they try to hold onto power and may this be so convincing that everyone knows that your hand is in this. Then we may bring the light of your Gospel to the nations as you did this time in history:

http://jn1838.blogspot.com/2010/02/battle-of-lepanto-battle-that-saved.html

May you block and undo every policy and piece of legislation they have passed that is harmful to this nation. This day we shatter the clay jar of Jeremiah 19 in their faces. May you punish those in our government who are lawless traitors by exposing them and deliver them into our hands for justice.
