How much yard do you have?
As for the cats; our barn cat has a medium size doghouse (inside 24"*22"), the plastic kind, that connect in the middle, with the roof snapping onto the walls.
I have placed a couple of small sheets of metal roofing (Slightly smaller than the floor) with two 2*4's on edge separating them, with a 75 watt bulb between them to give warmth. With a piece of scrap rug floor; he likes it!
He can sit inside and watch the yard thru the clear plastic flap door.
Woodja believe when they were small all 4 goats would play inside that doghouse!
