Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Book of Proverbs
Chapter 21

1. The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD,
Like the rivers of water;
He turns it wherever He wishes.
2. Every way of a man is right in his own eyes,
But the LORD weighs the hearts.
3. To do righteousness and justice
Is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.
4. A haughty look, a proud heart,
And the plowing of the wicked are sin.
5. The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty,
But those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty.
6. Getting treasures by a lying tongue
Is the fleeting fantasy of those who seek death.
7. The violence of the wicked will destroy them,
Because they refuse to do justice.
8. The way of a guilty man is perverse;
But as for the pure, his work is right.
9. Better to dwell in a corner of a housetop,
Than in a house shared with a contentious woman.
10. The soul of the wicked desires evil;
His neighbor finds no favor in his eyes.
11. When the scoffer is punished, the simple is made wise;
But when the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge.
12. The righteous God wisely considers the house of the wicked,
Overthrowing the wicked for their wickedness.
13. Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor
Will also cry himself and not be heard.
14. A gift in secret pacifies anger,
And a bribe behind the back, strong wrath.
15. It is a joy for the just to do justice,
But destruction will come to the workers of iniquity.
16. A man who wanders from the way of understanding
Will rest in the assembly of the dead.
17. He who loves pleasure will be a poor man;
He who loves wine and oil will not be rich.
18. The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous,
And the unfaithful for the upright.
19. Better to dwell in the wilderness,
Than with a contentious and angry woman.
20. There is desirable treasure,
And oil in the dwelling of the wise,
But a foolish man squanders it.
21. He who follows righteousness and mercy
Finds life, righteousness, and honor.
22. A wise man scales the city of the mighty,
And brings down the trusted stronghold.
23. Whoever guards his mouth and tongue
Keeps his soul from troubles.
24 A proud and haughty man—“Scoffer” is his name;
He acts with arrogant pride.
25. The desire of the lazy man kills him,
For his hands refuse to labor.
26. He covets greedily all day long,
But the righteous gives and does not spare.
27. The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination;
How much more when he brings it with wicked intent!
28. A false witness shall perish,
But the man who hears him will speak endlessly.
29. A wicked man hardens his face,
But as for the upright, he establishes his way.
30. There is no wisdom or understanding
Or counsel against the LORD.
31. The horse is prepared for the day of battle,
But deliverance is of the LORD.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our God,
How Excellent Is Your Name Over All The Earth!
How Mighty,
How Majestic,
and How Wonderful!
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise and Worship,
For You Alone Are the Most High,
Ancient of Days,
Our Rock and Our Redeemer,
Our Refuge and Our Strength!
You Are the Creator of All Things,
And Yet, Even In Your Omnipotence,
You Give us the Privilege of Calling Out To You,
"Abba, Father!"

Our Father in Heaven,
We Thank You For These Glorious Words of Wisdom,
Such Words of Comfort and Strength!
The Waters indeed Roar and are troubled,
The Truth is Indeed Our Shield and Our Buckler!
And YOU ARE The TRUTH!
And The Mountains Indeed Shake
with the Troubles of this World!
But YOU, Oh LORD, are Our Refuge and Our Fortress,
Our God, In Whom We Trust!
Though the Whole Earth seems to rage against us,
We Do Not Fear,
For You Are Lord Over All.

Abba Father,
We Pray For Your Holy City, Jerusalem,
and For Your People.
We Thank You For Your People Israel,
Who Have Given us Your Word,
Your Law,
The Blessings of Western Civilization,
and For Your Messiah.

Almighty God, We Pray For Our Own Beloved USA.
Number Us Not With Those
Who Make Themselves Enemies of You and Your People!
We Repent of Our Own Suspicions,
Attitudes of Superiority,
Agenda Behavior,
and Outright Antisemitism that we as a nation,
or as individuals,
have Perpetrated Against Your People.
Forgive Us, Oh LORD,
and Turn The Hearts of the People of the USA Back To You.

Show Us Your Salvation, Oh LORD!
Father, We Pray For This Stillness,
This Peace That Passes Understanding,
This Communion Of The Spirit,
Which The World Can't Give,
To Encompass Your People And Embrace Them.
We Pray For Persecuted Believers
in Hostile Countries Worldwide,
May They Find Peace and Freedom.
We Lift up Especially The Jewish People in Europe,
who are facing new waves of Antisemitism.
We Stand With Them and Say, "NEVER AGAIN!"
And Thus,
We Pray,
Your Refuge,
Your Shelter,
Your Secret "Place"
for All Our Beloved,
Till Messiah Comes,
and Makes all Things Right.

Reading 1

Is 60:1-6

Rise up in splendor, Jerusalem! Your light has come,
the glory of the Lord shines upon you.
See, darkness covers the earth,
and thick clouds cover the peoples;
but upon you the LORD shines,
and over you appears his glory.
Nations shall walk by your light,
and kings by your shining radiance.
Raise your eyes and look about;
they all gather and come to you:
your sons come from afar,
and your daughters in the arms of their nurses.

Then you shall be radiant at what you see,
your heart shall throb and overflow,
for the riches of the sea shall be emptied out before you,
the wealth of nations shall be brought to you.
Caravans of camels shall fill you,
dromedaries from Midian and Ephah;
all from Sheba shall come
bearing gold and frankincense,
and proclaiming the praises of the LORD.

It's todays Catholic Mass reading. I find the readings on a lot of days match to your sites. Funny thing these were planned years before. God Is Good!

Praise Jesus! Amen!

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Jophngrace, Then it might be The New American Bible, The Jerusalem Bible, or Perhaps a Newer Translation with which I am not Familiar. It is very lovely and accurate, and has the Rhythm of Poetry, which is so important in certain Scripture, such as Psalms and these Isaiah Passages.
I find the same correlation when I choose pictures for this Thread, and also in my own private devotional reading!

From the Very Foundation of the World! Our Lord knows the Beginning and The End, BECAUSE He IS the Beginning and the End!

AHA! I was RIGHT!
It’s The “New American Bible”!

Back when I worked in a Christian Book Store, this was the Favorite Translation for Roman Catholics.

The Douey-Rheims was a wee bit too archaic in its language, and The Jerusalem Bible, though Poetic and Beautiful, had a very UNFAMILIAR feel to its sentence structure and Language.

The New American was a perfect solution, because it had the ring of Familiarity about it, Beautiful Language, Accurate translation, and was faithful to the Original Text.

Thank You For Sharing it with us today!
