Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Book of Proverbs
Chapter 18

1. A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire;
He rages against all wise judgment.
2. A fool has no delight in understanding,
But in expressing his own heart.
3. When the wicked comes, contempt comes also;
And with dishonor comes reproach.
4. The words of a man’s mouth are deep waters;
The wellspring of wisdom is a flowing brook.
5. It is not good to show partiality to the wicked,
Or to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
6. A fool’s lips enter into contention,
And his mouth calls for blows.
7. A fool’s mouth is his destruction,
And his lips are the snare of his soul.
8. The words of a talebearer are like tasty trifles,
And they go down into the inmost body.
9. He who is slothful in his work
Is a brother to him who is a great destroyer.
10. The name of the LORD is a strong tower;
The righteous run to it and are safe.
11. The rich man’s wealth is his strong city,
And like a high wall in his own esteem.
12. Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty,
And before honor is humility.
13. He who answers a matter before he hears it,
It is folly and shame to him.
14. The spirit of a man will sustain him in sickness,
But who can bear a broken spirit?
15. The heart of the prudent acquires knowledge,
And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.
16. A man’s gift makes room for him,
And brings him before great men.
17. The first one to plead his cause seems right,
Until his neighbor comes and examines him.
18. Casting lots causes contentions to cease,
And keeps the mighty apart.
19. A brother offended is harder to win than a strong city,
And contentions are like the bars of a castle.
20. A man’s stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth;
From the produce of his lips he shall be filled.
21. Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
And those who love it will eat its fruit.
22. He who finds a wife finds a good thing,
And obtains favor from the LORD.
23. The poor man uses entreaties,
But the rich answers roughly.
24. A man who has friends must himself be friendly,
But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Thank You for loving us,
And For sharing Your Heart with us,
Through these brilliant Words of Wisdom!

Father, We pray for an END to Lies,
Slander,
Blood Libel,
Propaganda,
and Antisemitism against Your Beloved.
We Pray For an End to Slavery,
Hostage-Taking,
and Piracy
wherever it is Practiced Around the World.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

16 Who rises up for me against the wicked?
Who stands up for me against evildoers?
17 If the Lord had not been my help,
my soul would soon have lived in the land of silence.
18 When I thought, ‘My foot is slipping’,
your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up.
19 When the cares of my heart are many,
your consolations cheer my soul.
20 Can wicked rulers be allied with you,
those who contrive mischief by statute?
21 They band together against the life of the righteous,
and condemn the innocent to death.
22 But the Lord has become my stronghold,
and my God the rock of my refuge.
23 He will repay them for their iniquity
and wipe them out for their wickedness;
the Lord our God will wipe them out.

Heavenly Father may you continue to bring an overwhelming, crushing defeat on the forces of darkness in our nation, may you smash every crooked deed they try to hold onto power and may this be so convincing that everyone knows that your hand is in this. Then we may bring the light of your Gospel to the nations as you did this time in history:

The Broken Earthenware Jug

19Thus said the Lord: Go and buy a potter’s earthenware jug. Take with you* some of the elders of the people and some of the senior priests, 2and go out to the valley of the son of Hinnom at the entry of the Potsherd Gate, and proclaim there the words that I tell you. 3You shall say: Hear the word of the Lord, O kings of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: I am going to bring such disaster upon this place that the ears of everyone who hears of it will tingle. 4Because the people have forsaken me, and have profaned this place by making offerings in it to other gods whom neither they nor their ancestors nor the kings of Judah have known, and because they have filled this place with the blood of the innocent, 5and gone on building the high places of Baal to burn their children in the fire as burnt-offerings to Baal, which I did not command or decree, nor did it enter my mind; 6therefore the days are surely coming, says the Lord, when this place shall no more be called Topheth, or the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of Slaughter. 7And in this place I will make void the plans of Judah and Jerusalem, and will make them fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of those who seek their life. I will give their dead bodies for food to the birds of the air and to the wild animals of the earth. 8And I will make this city a horror, a thing to be hissed at; everyone who passes by it will be horrified and will hiss because of all its disasters. 9And I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and all shall eat the flesh of their neighbours in the siege, and in the distress with which their enemies and those who seek their life afflict them.

10 Then you shall break the jug in the sight of those who go with you, 11and shall say to them: Thus says the Lord of hosts: So will I break this people and this city, as one breaks a potter’s vessel, so that it can never be mended. In Topheth they shall bury until there is no more room to bury. 12Thus will I do to this place, says the Lord, and to its inhabitants, making this city like Topheth. 13And the houses of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah shall be defiled like the place of Topheth—all the houses upon whose roofs offerings have been made to the whole host of heaven, and libations have been poured out to other gods.

14 When Jeremiah came from Topheth, where the Lord had sent him to prophesy, he stood in the court of the Lord’s house and said to all the people: 15Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: I am now bringing upon this city and upon all its towns all the disaster that I have pronounced against it, because they have stiffened their necks, refusing to hear my words.
