Yes, this is done even today. In Luke 1, John the Baptist is prophesied to come in the spirit and power of Elijah and if you assume that Zehariah received the prophecy while he served in the temple in the late May/early June time-frame for the first yearly course of Abijah and that Elizabeth became pregnant upon his return; this places the birth of John at Passover. This fits nicely with the prophecy that John would come in the spirit and power of Elijah.
The Christ, of course, was 6 months later at the time of the Feast of Tabernacles.
