Killing the Holy Innocents: Governments that Fund Abortion are the New Herods
Catholic Online ^ | 12/28/10 | Deacon Keith Fournier

...The abortion lie has been revealed in its wretched ugliness. Every procured abortion is the intentional killing of an innocent child. No-one who continues to support it is a friend of the poor. The baby in the womb is, as Mother Teresa so clearly reminded us, the "poorest of the poor". Defenders of abortion on demand hate the poor. Any Nation which protects in the positive law the taking of innocent human life in the womb, calling it a "right" and a "choice" is participating in evil and promoting darkness.

The Gospel for the Mass on the Feast of the Holy Innocents reminds us of how evil infects those who fail to hear the cry of the poor and serve in government. The example given is Herod, a ruler inebriated with his own power. He ruled unjustly while claiming to be doing exactly the opposite:

"When Herod realized that he had been deceived by the magi, he became furious. He ordered the massacre of all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had ascertained from the magi..."

...The US Government carries on the evil of Herod by funding the killing of Holy Innocents. For example, in calendar year 2008/2009 Planned Parenthood received $363 million in government grants and contracts. This money was extracted from the US taxpayer and used to kill 324,008 children in the womb.

Planned Parenthood is built on a deadly lie. They have dressed themselves up as a "Health Care Provider" and they include the taking of the lives of innocent children in the womb as a "service" under their offering of "reproductive services". They have insinuated themselves into the global delivery of "medical services" receiving massive government funding. ...

Every child killed by voluntary abortion is a "Holy Innocent". Every politician who supports this killing, implicitly or explicitly, carries on the evil actions of Herod. On this Feast of the Holy Innocents let us summon a new resolve to bring an end to the slaughter of the holy innocents in this hour. Time to end the funding of Planned Parenthood and the slaughter of the Holy Innocents.

Abortion is murder, it is that simple. That it is legal in the U.S. is an even greater shame to this country than slavery.

St John CantiusIt's unbelievable really that we continue to walk one foot in front of the other, while countless (in the thousands) of babies die each day after a signed approval for murder is given from their very own mothers. These mothers then are left to battle the wounds caused from abortion which can last years, decades, even a lifetime ...

From Fr. John A. Hardon:
Let me repeat in the clearest words in my disposal. I would restate our thesis in two propositions. Proposition #1 There is no stopping abortion without an ocean of grace from Jesus Christ. No way will human means stop abortion. #2 The principal source of this grace is the Holy Eucharist.
What better day to start receiving the frequent Holy Eucharist (to battle abortion) than on the Feast of the Holy Innocents? Find a Mass near you! Link. It IS that simple.

Pray the Rosary for Peace (starting in the mother's womb).

Were you aware of these statistics?

Deaths in America per year
1,400,000 people die from abortion
650,000 people die of heart disease
560,000 people die of cancer
143,000 people die of stroke
75,000 people die of diabetes

Another perspective:
18,000 - Deaths by death penalty in American history (all the way back to the 1600s).
1,315,000 - Deaths in all American wars combined.
50,000,000 - Deaths by abortion since Roe v Wade

Pray for an end to abortion in the United States of America.

Reading A sermon of St Quodvultdeus
Even before they learn to speak, they proclaim Christ
A tiny child is born, who is a great king. Wise men are led to him from afar. They come to adore one who lies in a manger and yet reigns in heaven and on earth. When they tell of one who is born a king, Herod is disturbed. To save his kingdom he resolves to kill him, though if he would have faith in the child, he himself would reign in peace in this life and for ever in the life to come.
Why are you afraid, Herod, when you hear of the birth of a king? He does not come to drive you out, but to conquer the devil. But because you do not understand this you are disturbed and in a rage, and to destroy one child whom you seek, you show your cruelty in the death of so many children.
You are not restrained by the love of weeping mothers or fathers mourning the deaths of their sons, nor by the cries and sobs of the children. You destroy those who are tiny in body because fear is destroying your heart. You imagine that if you accomplish your desire you can prolong your own life, though you are seeking to kill Life himself.
Yet your throne is threatened by the source of grace, so small, yet so great, who is lying in the manger. He is using you, all unaware of it, to work out his own purposes freeing souls from captivity to the devil. He has taken up the sons of the enemy into the ranks of God’s adopted children.
The children die for Christ, though they do not know it. The parents mourn for the death of martyrs. The child makes of those as yet unable to speak fit witnesses to himself. See the kind of kingdom that is his, coming as he did in order to be this kind of king. See how the deliverer is already working deliverance, the saviour already working salvation.
But you, Herod, do not know this and are disturbed and furious. While you vent your fury against the child, you are already paying him homage, and do not know it.
How great a gift of grace is here! To what merits of their own do the children owe this kind of victory? They cannot speak, yet they bear witness to Christ. They cannot use their limbs to engage in battle, yet already they bear off the palm of victory.
Responsory
They worshipped him who lives for ever and ever, and laid their crowns before the throne of the Lord their God.
They fell on their faces before the throne, and blessed him who lives for ever and ever, and laid their crowns before the throne of the Lord their God.

Psalm 2
The Messiah, king and victor
Your children, Lord, skipped like lambs, singing your praises, since you delivered them.
Why are the nations in a ferment?
Why do the people make their vain plans?
The kings of the earth have risen up;
the leaders have united against the Lord,
  against his anointed.
“Let us break their chains, that bind us;
let us throw off their yoke from our shoulders!”
The Lord laughs at them,
he who lives in the heavens derides them.
Then he speaks to them in his anger;
in his fury he throws them into confusion:
“But I – I have set up my king on Zion,
my holy mountain.”
I will proclaim the Lord’s decrees.
The Lord has said to me: “You are my son: today I have begotten you.
Ask me, and I will give you the nations for your inheritance,
the ends of the earth for you to possess.
You will rule them with a rod of iron,
break them in pieces like an earthen pot.”
So now, kings, listen: understand, you who rule the land.
Serve the Lord in fear, tremble even as you praise him.
Learn his teaching, lest he take anger,
lest you perish when his anger bursts into flame.
Blessed are all who put their trust in the Lord.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
  world without end.
Amen.
Your children, Lord, skipped like lambs, singing your praises, since you delivered them.

Great links, Salvation. I did not know of the Bishops' special blessing; thank you!

Today at Mass, our spiritually-dry daily-Mass church had a Missionary of Charity (in full beautiful simple habit) in attendance and Fr. introduced her after the Mass; I think he was very excited (he's a new pastor to our parish; seems not as dry as our last one). Maybe things are lookin' up!?

**Maybe things are lookin’ up!?**

If he is a new priest I would say “Yes.”

Probably things will change slowly — that’s how a new priest has to operate — so that parishioners aren’t lost.
