Devils Lake was given the name by the Great Northern Railroad and is a misinterpretation of the name of the lake given by the local Indian's, which was supposed to translate to "The Holy One."
Devils Lake - very choppy
Spirit Lake - very calm
Is it only the causeway that produces the effect, or is there another reason?
