since Bishops were only to have one wife it stands to reason that some early Christians had more than one wife

Instead of "relying on your own understanding", try doing some actual cultural reasearch into the time and place of Jesus. Polygamy was quite uncommon.

Anyway, how would that jibe with what some LDS say about Jesus having practiced polygamy? I understand that that was the true way, it was lost over the ages, and then Joseph Smith "restored" it.

Could Jesus have been ineligible to be a bishop in His own church?

Absurd, if I have to go to a seminary to accept Jesus Christ as my savior then I'm in trouble. The Apostles were fishermen not Seminarians. It's just not complicated, either accept Jesus of Nazarath or don't.
