Top 10 Christmas Carols

Let the debate begin! Below is my subjective list of favorites, with videos of good to great renditions of each. I have also included my favorite line(s) of each song:

Top 10 Christmas Carols

10 - O Little Town of Bethlehem
Favorite line(s):
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight

I don't know if it falls into this category but my favorite is "The Angels Cried" by Alan Jackson and Alison Krauss.

I do find it hard to believe that “Once in David’s Royal City” won out in popularity over all of those others except “O Holy Night.” I have trouble believing it won out over all but 2 on the honorable mention list.

I guess we just don’t sing it much in my part of the country.

I can’t recall ever having sung it.

It doesn’t matter as long as the girl in those hyudai commercials sings it.

O Holy Night. My absolute favorite because it’s got the entire message. “...till He appeared and the soul felt it’s worth...”. Shivers, every time.

Little Toy Trains - Glen Campbell

Actually ANY Glen Campbell Christmas song is great. For some reason, his voice just suits Christmas songs. I also love all Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra Christmas music.

I wondered about that one too. But it was the blogger’s personal choices so......

We can list ours now! LOL!

There is one that is in the back of my brain that isn’t coming out yet. I’ll post it when I remember the title.

“Go tell it on the mountain”

Can you translate that title for us “Uneducated and non-Polish speaking ones”?

Thanks.

I’m thinking that Silent Night is the favorite of more people I’ve met in my years of ministry than any other. It is always the focus of candle-lighting service on Christmas Eve.

I wish there were a few more really good, singable Advent songs. O Come, O Come is mystery & wonder and then it goes downhill from there.

Each one has a unique spirit. Cannot, and will not name a favorite, My “favorite” is the season itself! Merry Christmas!

Isaiah was foretold it
This rose I have in mind.
With Mary we behold it,
The Virgin Mother kind.
She bore to us a Savior,
When half spent was the night.

“‘O Holy Night’ sung by a good female singer is hard to beat.”

When I was in the 6th grade, my class had a transient girl(her dad was in construction and moved often). She had a fantastic voice (she was also beautiful) and hearing her sing O Holy Night brought a tear. Even the memory does it.

She sang it for our class presentation and the auditorium was packed.

After she finished, there wasn't a dry eye in the place. After a 10-15 second period of silence, the audience burst into applause which lasted for a full 2 minutes. She moved on after the Christmas break. We never saw her again.
