God rested His Presence on it between the two carved angels.

Exactly -- the Ark was NOT God, whereas Jesus Christ was/is God.

The Ark contained the Word, it was not the Word, whereas Jesus Christ WAS the Word incarnate

To say that the Ark was Christ, to compare Christ to a container is blasphemous to say the least.

My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
For He has regarded the low estate of His handmaiden,
For behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with His arm:
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
and exalted those of low degree.
He has filled the hungry with good things;
and the rich He has sent empty away.
He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy;
As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to His posterity forever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

Magníficat ánima mea Dóminum,
et exsultávit spíritus meus
in Deo salvatóre meo,
quia respéxit humilitátem
ancíllæ suæ.

Ecce enim ex hoc beátam
me dicent omnes generatiónes,
quia fecit mihi magna,
qui potens est,
et sanctum nomen eius,
et misericórdia eius in progénies
et progénies timéntibus eum.
Fecit poténtiam in bráchio suo,
dispérsit supérbos mente cordis sui;
depósuit poténtes de sede
et exaltávit húmiles.
Esuriéntes implévit bonis
et dívites dimísit inánes.
Suscépit Ísrael púerum suum,
recordátus misericórdiæ,
sicut locútus est ad patres nostros,
Ábraham et sémini eius in sæcula.

Glória Patri et Fílio
et Spirítui Sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio,
et nunc et semper,
et in sæcula sæculórum.

Amen.

Let's be fair here. Rnmomof7 said that the Ark of the Covenant was a type of Christ in the same way most Old Testament examples were symbols or types of Christ. I posted the documentation that gave a very good overview, complete with Scripture chapters and verses, of all that was around the Ark as well as the items that were parts of it and contained within it. I never got the impression that Rnmom said any such thing as "Jesus was merely a container for God". In fact, that was only your mocking response to her post. Is it possible to envision that the human body, the tabernacle of flesh, can be the residence of the Spirit of God? Jesus' human body was the outward shell of who he really is, Almighty God incarnate - in the flesh. The resurrected Christ was in a new body that was his glorified form. Our human bodies are really outward shells of who we really are. When this outward body perishes (dies) the part that is us (our soul/spirit) lives on. We will also be given a glorified body that will never die, get sick or suffer.

I'm not speaking for Rnmom, as she is more than capable of speaking for herself, I just wanted to say, I did not read her post the way you did. And I agree with her, also, that the Ark of the Covenant was no type of Mary. That the human body of Jesus was at one point in time for nine months tabernacled in Mary's womb is a given, no one will argue that, but to say that she was the Ark of the Covenant, old or new, is not correct.
