Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?"
Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

Did Jesus excerpt the sermon on the mount, so He could get blog hits? “Blessed are the meek....but first, a few words from our sponsor. Please click on our advertiser’s links!”
Jesus was NOT a blog pimp.
Sorry, believing is the not the only condition of the free gift of salvation. He also said people have to obey Him. For example see Luke 6:46 (” And why do you call Me Lord, Lord, and do not do what I say?”)
Amen.
John 14:6
I believe in Jesus, does he believe in me?
The doctrine that claims that a person's faith in God and in the person of Christ frees him from the moral obligations of the law, whether natural or positive, biblical or ecclesiastical. It is a logical consequence of any theory that so stresses the work of the Holy Spirit as to exclude the need for co-operation with divine grace. The most authoritative condemnation of Antinomianism was by the Council of Trent, which saw in the Reformation principle of faith without good works the source of Antinomian conclusions. Hence among other anathemas of Trent was the censure of anyone who says that "God has given Jesus Christ to men as a redeemer in whom they are to trust, but not as a lawgiver whom they are to obey" (Denzinger 1571). (Etym. Greek anti, against + nomos, law.)
“Sorry, believing is the not the only condition of the free gift of salvation.” Oxymoron.
Umm, no. He believed and repented. Repentance is essential to salvation. Just believing won’t save you; after all, even demons believe and tremble.
Believe and repent, that’s what we’re called to do.
The verse you quote is not the only answer to the question: what must we do to be saved?
If it was the only verse in the Bible I’d believe you.
But Scripture gives us far more instruction.
“Believe and be baptized.”
“Repent.”
“Be born again.”
“Do not forsake the gathering together of believers.”
“Cast out (this one and that one) from the fellowship.”
“Do this (communion) until I come.”
“Pray without ceasing.”
And I could go on and on.
On the one hand, your works don’t save you. We are saved by grace.
On the other hand, “faith without works is dead,” as we read in James.
You got it!!
Yes, he believed He is the Christ, not just some guy named Jesus, so many people believe all you have to do is just believe Jesus was a person who lived 2000 years ago, but the reality there’s a lot more to it.
The Greek word, which is translated as faith, is pistis (noun) and believe, is translated from pistevo (verb). The word believe (Greek verb “pistevo”), according to Strong’s Greek Dictionary, means: to have faith (in, upon, or with respect to, a person or thing), i.e. credit; by implication, to entrust, (especially one’s spiritual well-being to Christ.) believe, commit, (to trust), put in trust with. “Pistevo” comes from the Greek noun “pistis” which means: persuasion, i.e., credence; moral conviction (of religious truth, or the truthfulness of God or a religious teacher), especially reliance upon Christ for salvation; the system of religious (Gospel) truth itself; assurance, belief, believe, faith. Notice the subtle shades of meaning which are unlocked in the amplified translations: “Jesus said to her, I am the Resurrection and the Life. Whoever believes in (adheres to, trusts in, relies on) Me, although he may die, yet he shall live”
The first major church council, held with those who actually were with the resurrected Lord before His ascension into Heaven issued a rather plain edict on what faithers/believers were to do as Christians. James, brother of Jesus gave the sermon in Acts chapter 15, IIRC. It is rather amazing ... in what it does not contain that came later as the doctrines of men.
No, he really doesn’t, just like you don’t get it.
Those who are called according to His will are called to holiness and seperation from the world. We’re called to live a life, holy and acceptable as a living sacrifice to the Lord.
John 5:24 I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.
Amen! To accept Jesus as G-d is all it takes. Jesus plus nothing is salvation. To accept Jesus as G-d will cause believers to attempt to follow all his fathers’ commandments.
Written about “Legalists” at Trent who were losing control of their flock.
No, it’s not all that is required. Acceptance and belief is just the first step. You must repent of your sins, otherwise you WILL fall away.
Total contradictions but you have to believe something.
So what you’re saying is, if I believe in Jesus as Lord and the Son of God, I can go out and screw around, kill people, deal drugs, molest children, do horrible things, and it will be okay because I believe in Jesus?
