He screwed up the western world during the cold war with his Peace crap.
Yeah. I’m numb with grief.
It was a sad day indeed yet it seemed he was aware it was coming. Whispering “shoot me” over and over. Well happiness is a warm gun.
IIRC he was killed on his doorstep?
i do not know what your religion is, but in mine we shall pray for the soul of john lennon and hope that when we are gone others will pray for us.
then again, in mine we do not claim perfection sufficient to allow us to spend our earthly days criticizing others.
oh, and he was not killed “near” his home; he was killed at the front door to his home.
If ever there was a reason for high capacity magazines, Yoko is it.
He was the loudest nihilist ever.

John Lennon - stand by me
Cain't wait! Randles rants. Hasn't enough been said about John Lennon, he to be forgotten in about 20 years like Rudy Vallee, or some other pop crooner before him? Why not take up, oh, say, Andy Kim?!
“We live in a country, where John Lennon takes six bullets in the chest, Yoko Ono was standing right next to him and not one ******* bullet! Explain that to me! Explain that to me, God!”
-— Denis Leary -—
I was there and I saw first hand what happened and John Lennon had little to do with. Not many understood the words to the songs that were written. There was a time, really when every song was understood. Then the mysterious songs started coming out in the mid to late sixties. Even with the words written down for you they still made no sense. What caused the sexual revolution was for the first time in history, girls could take a pill, once a day and feel free to have sex with who ever, when ever she wanted. It would have changed any generation. The drug scene was thanks to the vietnam war. Often idolized by their little brothers, big brothers came home knowing how to roll pot. I was in High School from 1968 to 1972. It was not their when my sister went to HS from 1962-1966 but by the time I got out, pot had secured a beachead there and NEVER left. Thanks LBJ
Judge not lest ye be judged
“...as millions mourned the forty-year old rock star in candlelight vigils around the world.”...
YEah, yeah. That was late in the year of 1980....So what? Probably millions did indeed “mourne” upon the news while billions would later learn of it in some way or another.
What’s worse is that some kids and young adults don’t know the difference between The Beatles and the Apollo 11 astronauts. Not to mention all the other astronauts...
I loved John Lennon’s music with the Beatles and on his own. I never felt the draw to indulge in the sex and drugs culture. People who make that claim are only trying to excuse their own miserable choices and behaviors. Rock n Roll is just music.
Yesterday afternoon, a Trader Joe’s cashier asked me as I approached his station “Who’s your favorite Beatle?”, just to be friendly, y’know, they’re hired for their friendliness, and I answered after a moment “George Harrison”. I have a favorite Beatle, like I have a favorite member of the Hollies, or the Swinging Blue Jeans, but it’s easy to put me on the spot. I should’ve answered “Pete Best”. Oh, well, l’esprit de l’escalier.
