One Mediator Between God and Men: CHRIST JESUS
2010 | God's Word

Posted on 12/03/2010 4:14:50 PM PST by bibletruth

1 Timothy 2:5 ...one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

There is NO debate here: God's Word clearly points out who the mediator is between God and men: i.e., Christ Jesus

If you believe in God's Word, who is Christ Jesus: The Word of God, then 1 Timothy 2:5 will be easily be understood as Christ the mediator.

Just when we think anti-Catholics bigots can't sink to a new low, you pull a stunt like, this during Advent? You should be ashamed, and I suspect deep down, if you have not completely trampled your conscience to death, you really are.

Brian what does postpartum. Mary have to do with your salvation?? What does her sex life have to do with your salvation???

If you truly need help to understand the obvious...

"ven·er·ate [ vénnə ràyt ] (past and past participle ven·er·at·ed, present participle ven·er·at·ing, 3rd person present singular ven·er·ates) transitive verb Definition: 1. respect somebody: to regard somebody with profound respect."

"wor·ship [ wúrship ] verb (past and past participle wor·shiped or wor·shipped, present participle wor·ship·ing or wor·ship·ping, 3rd person present singular wor·ships) Definition: 1. transitive and intransitive verb treat somebody or something as deity: to treat somebody or something as divine"

RnMomof7....the Free Dictionary says:

Venerate:

To regard with respect, reverence, or heartfelt deference.

Worship:

To honor and love as a deity.

Hope this clears up your dilema. Dictionaries are your friend. Celtic Cross....Thank you for defending our lady. Bless you this Christmas and always.

When one ascribes the term Mother of god
to a mere created human being
by definition one has raised mary to the level of goddess !!!!!!

I asked IN PRACTICE.. How does venerate differ from worship???

Do you kneel before God?
Do you kneel before Marys statue?

Do you pray to God?
Do you pray to Mary?

Do you have stained glass windows of Christ?
Do you have stained glass windows of Mary?

Do you put flowers on the altar before God?
Do you put flowers on the altars before mary?

Do you light candles before statues of Christ?
Do you light candles before the statue of Mary?

In what way does "respect somebody" and " to regard somebody with profound respect."" differ from "to treat somebody or something as divine"

BTW you forgot to post the synonyms for venerate

Synonyms: adore, deify, glorify, revere, reverence, worship

Ohh yea and synonyms for worship...
3. honor, homage, adoration, idolatry. 7. honor, venerate, revere, adore, glorify, idolize, adulate.

Ummm a distinction without a difference....

>> How can I misquote when I posted it as it is in THE WORD? What’s wrong with you? <<

What translation are you using then? Because your citation is inaccurate.

>> Jesus said but more blessed - does NOT discount Mary but it clearly shows His response to the lady esteeming her. Do you know anyone else who does that? Are they hearing and obeying? <<

Are you not counting Mary among those who obeyed? Your entire argument is based on the false notion that there exists a superlative in Jesus’ response. There is none.

>> Always inserting ‘your beliefs’ according to tradition is not the way the way to Truth! <<

So inserting your beliefs counter to the tradition to the disciples, as Protestants do, is? Look, people are going to interpret and understand the bible differently. The question is whether that interpretation is going to be based on the tradition handed down to us by the disciples, or on the way you reflexively think makes the most sense, because it was the way you were taught to since childhood by some preachers?

The Blessed Virgin Mary is honored among Catholics, Orthodox, Copts, Indo-Thomists and all the ancient traditions. Sure there are some distinctions made; the Orthodox reject the formulation of the Immaculate Conception, not because they reject the sinlessness of Mary, but because they take issue with St. Augustine formulation of Original Sin. Yet they still believe her to be sinless, ever-virgin, consumed bodily into Heaven, and venerable. This denegration of Mary is a modern invention, opposed even by the first generations of Protestants. Even in cultures isolated from Rome since the earliest centuries of the Church, Mary is still venerated as a prefiguring of the Church.

So, what’s wrong with you?

“Ummm a distinction without a difference....”

From the Rocket Scientist who cannot figure out the meaning of VICAR, that is rich.

Here is a hint sweetie - we venerate God whom we worship, but there are many we venerate who we do NOT worship. Like salutes to a General.

One more clue Sis, in the Catholic world (which you claim to have been raised in but clearly have no clue about), in the Orthodox world, in much of both the Anglican and Lutheran communities the HIGHEST form of WORSHIP is reserved to ONLY the Triune God. What you misidentify (along with all of your other errors) as BLASPHEMY the vast majority of Christendom from the Last Supper until now celebrates as the Holy Eucharist.

If anyone has the ping lists for the Orthodox, Anglican and High Lutherans here, please ping them - an ignorant (to be charitable) soul is crying out in pain for education. You might start her with the word VICAR as she has demonstrated her ignorance of that word. She also has seemed to have trouble with the concept “The Gospel” on this thread as well. As a corporal act of mercy, please help her!

>> All men are still condemned today until they repent and believe in Christ as their Savior.. However to say that ALL men were consigned to hell ( as you imply) ,Abraham. Jacob .joseph, Moses David, etc... would be very surprised.. (read Hebrews 11) <<

All men are condemned to Hell / Sheol / the Grave / Prison, apart from Christ. David knew he was bound for Sheol, yet he also prophetically foretold he would be rescued from Sheol, afterward. Yes, the “bosom of Abraham” was in Sheol. (The ancient Church called this “The Hell of the Patriarchs.”) Sheol was not necessarily a place of torment and infinite suffering, but it was certainly the same word translated as “Hades,” and “Hell.” (”Tartarus,” borrowing metaphorically from the Greek or “Gehenna,” borrowing metaphorically from the Hebrew burning trash dumps were words used for torment.)

When Peter says that Christ preached to the souls in prison after he died and was buried, the ancient Church understood this to mean that he “descended into Hell” and preached to the souls of the just, so they may be saved. Apart from the blood of Christ, no-one, not even John the Baptist, was saved. This is why Jesus explicitly states that the Least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than John the Baptist.

Mary was a disciple of Christ. She did not die, and go to Sheol, as the prophets of old did. So, yes, when the gospel tells us that the Least of the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than greatest of the prophets, we can safely know that Mary was greater than John.

What translation are you using then? Because your citation is inaccurate.

Did you find one that fits your tradition?

I didn't read your post. You are too indoctrinated in tradition and willingly stay in it. That's your problem, not mine. You were given The Word and ignored it. You aren't the first nor will be the last. We are told that road is wide.

In the meantime, I'm living my ETERNAL LIFE now.

Mary is still venerated as a prefiguring of the Church.

Such clap-trap !!!!!!

The "church" Ekklesia was mentioned and defined in Deuteronomy 4:10

Deu 4:10 "Remember the day you stood before YHvH
your God at Horeb, when YHvH said to me,
'Assemble the people to Me,

that I may let them hear My words so they may learn
to fear Me all the days they live on the earth,
and that they may teach their children.'

Church is not a building
nor a corporation in Rome.

So sweetie, you claim that Catholic’s Blaspheme at Mass, right?

Be specific, how do they do that? What specific part of the Mass is BLASPHEMY according to the high priestess RnMomof7?

"The RC teaching of Mary's sinless life should be caution enough for anyone to dust the errors of Rome off their feet and head for a Scriptural understanding of life, men and God."

At last we have an understanding of Dr. Eck's purpose on FR. She is here on a recruiting mission because the remaining few members of the OPC can't cover the cost of punch and cookies at this years Christmas Party. I I kick in for a bag of cookies and a 5 lb can of coffee will you shut up and go away?
