SHOULD A BAPTIST CHURCH EMBRACE PENTECOSTALISM?
PB Ministries ^ | 20-Oct-2010 | Laurence A Justice

Posted on 11/23/2010 12:14:36 AM PST by Cronos

Right now there are churches in almost every country which call themselves Baptists on the sign out front who, nevertheless, arc not Baptists, but in reality are Pentecostal churches.

....Pentecostalism is the belief that the miraculous gifts or signs which the Lord gave to the Apostles and others in the early churches have not ceased, but are still available and are still being exercised by today’s Christians. Pentecostalism claims that God still gives these miraculous gifts to men today. Lists of these gifts can be found in Mark 16:17-18 and 1 Corinthians 12:8-11.

..God’s extraordinary gifts are called this in contrast to those He ordinarily gives in all ages. They are ordinarily not given, but rather were given on extraordinary occasions. These extraordinary gifts were supernatural gifts that enabled their possessors to perform supernatural deeds. Usually when Pentecostals today speak of the gifts or the charismata, they are speaking of these extraordinary gifts, that is, healing, miracles, tongues, direct revelations from God, casting out demons. Pentecostalism teaches that these miraculous gifts, these charismata, are still available to Christians today

ROTFLOL!

A Roman Catholic posting this thread and pinging a Baptist and a Pentacostal?

Hilarious.

I wonder why?

Brothers, let us not take the bait. While there are honest disagreements between Bible-believing Christians, the real disharmony is between those who follow the Scriptures as their only rule of faith and practice and those who think fallible old men in dresses are “another Christ” born of a “co-mediator” who must work for their salvation by their own righteousness.

INDEED. INDEED.

Kind of like a bloke who’d throw a rattlesnake into a lil ol ladies afternoon tea and claim he was only interested in their exercise in running away for their health.

ROTFLOLOL!

The counter-Reformation never ended. It’s alive and well on this very forum.

Pity.

INDEED.

The smugness will be wiped from their faces and fingers . . .

sadly, for many, rather sternly so.

This portion of a more complete dictionary definition can be found HERE. A guy without a Biblical world view is like a car on ice, spinning his wheels, making a lot of noise, and going -- nowhere. If your definition of Christianity is exclusively internal and experiential, you have a navel view, not a world view. You may not worry about "missing heaven by 18 inches," but Satan has little to worry about you bringing the priorities of heaven into your world!

I was wondering why the article he posted was high on man’s opinion and low on scripture to boost his point of view. Thanks for pointing that out!

Q. How many Baptists should you take fishing with you?
A. Two. if you take one, he’ll drink all your beer. If you take two, they won’t drink any.
Q. What’s the difference between a Baptist and a Methodist?
A. The Methodist will return your greeting if you meet in a liquor store.

SHOULD A BAPTIST CHURCH EMBRACE PENTECOSTALISM?

No.

Nor the much more common "pentecostalism lite" that is common coin in evangelicalism.

It's the Catholics who have embraced Pentecostalism, leaving staid old Rome with all its imperfections. Misery loves company.

I suppose next we'll have the posts about the evil Pentecostal Dingo Baptists somewhere in the south eating lil Catholic unbaptized babies."The Dingo Baptist ate yer bybee!"

Good post John. You wont find this Baptist running out any windows during a church service, praying with his hands out, speaking in tongues, real or pretending, or doing outward signs in church of what *others* think is "proof" of an undead religion.

However, if you want real spiritual help, as in prayer, I'm there for you.

If the measure of a Christian is other peoples' opinions, then something's wrong, and not with the reserved quiet ones. There's room for everybody in God's church and we have the right to worship as we see fit.

Show and sham for whatever imagined audience

can be displayed in virtually any ways, degrees and settings.

Personally, I am most grieved and put off by the prissy showy shams—DISPLAYING OSTENTACIOUS PROPRIETY TO THE HILT—of the frozen chosen varieties than I am by even the outlandish—and admittedly nauseating—Pentecostal varieties.

I have told a lot of people that nothing stinks worse than a sham Pentecostal church . . . and few spiritual congregational contexts are ever any better than the best authentic Pentecostal congregations.

And now, time for a word from our sponsor:

Galatians 5:22-23

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law

"3. Roman Catholic Charismatic groups also have experienced the current powerful demonstrations of Holy Spirit being alive and well in the earth today."

Brother, the presence of Charismatic fellowships in the RCC in the Philippines is so huge the priests are shaking in their boots (perhaps by another spirit).

Some of the RCC "anti-defamation" party which posts on FR are not familiar with Catholicism in many other countries. If they were to spend more than twelve weeks in the Philippines. for example, and really ask pertinent questions there about what they practice and why, they would then realize that Catholicism is not very Catholic at all.

Most are looking at Catholicism only from the USA context.

If one of these so-called “Baptists” hands me a rattlesnake I will jump out of a window fast too!

But then, why should I even be in such a group?

"But then, why should I even be in such a group?"

Oh, you really would learn quickly to appreciate them.

Did you ever stand up in a sports stadium and raise your hand in the air, or pull your fist at a 90, and holler out for your team?

If the same energy was present in worship of the Lord Jesus Christ instead of the "worship" of a sports team, you might see all kinds of unusual things.
