It was always my understanding that a "perfect act of contrition" substituted for priestly absolution of a mortal sin in circumstances when a priest could not be accessed for the sacrament of Penance; it has nothing to do with unpaid temporal punishments. Are you saying that a "Perfect Act of Contrition" serves as a Plenary Indulgence?

Not sure I agree that the thief ever did anything perfect in his life. But jesus indicated he would see paradise and that is good enough for me.
