The two stone tablets on which were inscribed tahe Ten Commandments of Yahweh (Exodus 20, 31:18). When Moses came down the mountain to his people, he found them worshiping a golden calf. He threw down the tablest and destroyed them in his anger (Exodus 32:19) Later he climbed Mount Sinai again with two new tablets and the Commandments were inscribed once more (Exodus 34:28). Moses placed them in the Ark for safekeeping (Deuteronomy 10:5).
