I get in way too many arguments with liberals. I recently cross-posted an article from American Thinker on my Facebook page (http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/11/de_facto_shariah_law_in_americ.html).
One of my more liberal friends made the usual statement that Christians have killed more people than Muslims, which I find VERY hard to believe. It's pretty obvious that Aetheists have killed far more (Hitler, Stalin, Mao) but we get back to the argument: muslims or christians?
I've searched the 'net with no real definite answer. Anyone?
VERY good points.
One billion people are currently muslim, but they have NO religious freedom to be anything BUT muslim in many of those nations.
That right there speaks out about the tyrannical nature of Islamic theocratic rule of nations.
Add to that the Islamic conquest of formerly Christian and other nations (conversion by the sword).
The uberleft live in a propaganda fantasy world. They will spout stats about the millions of kids supposedly killed by our sanctions on Iraq and then push for sanctions against Iran rather than military response to their nuclear weapon development.
Please excuse spelling errors. My passions sometimes get the best of me.
That is the rise of “secular humanism” in the formerly Christian dominant nation of the United States that lead to a culture with 50million abortions in under 40 years.
Liberals may mention Christians coming to the New World and the massive Indian die-off that followed, but no diseases were spread deliberately, and deaths were not caused specifically by religious zeal.
And in the past what did they expect the Christians to do, just let the moslems have their way and take over the world?
Christ didn’t compel people to kill...
mohammed did..END OF ARGUMENT.....
I don’t dispute your facts as posted. Killing in the NAME of religion is a human legacy throughout history.
But, I gotta dispute one thing you wrote.
“Muslim violence seems to be isolated in comparison.”
What we’d need to keep in mind is that
a) we have a rich written and recorded history of killing in the name of Christianity. A similar rich, rich history of killing in the name of Islam is NOT listed in your post, and *may* be harder to find in world history.
b) killing in the name of Christianity has LONG been condemned in the western world/ modern history. Your citations, accepted as valid are from ‘times past’.
c) killing in the name of Islam is, de facto, NOT condemned in the modern Islamic world.
d) killing in the name of Islam is in fact encouraged by many Islamic ‘leaders.’ Today. Now. We live under that threat. Today. Now.
e) Who is likely to be under threat of death from a modern Christian because they or their family is NOT a Christian?
Certain sects of ISLAM apparently *ARE* barbaric and murderous, at large scale, and publicly so. ... and noticeably NOT condemned by those Islamic sects that are ‘peace loving.’ I encourage you to cite a CURRENT, LARGE-SCALE Christian sect (not a cult) that promotes the murder of infidels.
NET: Muslim violence *IS* not isolated in current fact. We are not debating history. I don’t find a review of history to be a compelling argument for NOT condemning fanatical Islam, and those who do NOT condemn fanatical Islam in the modern world.
Thanks for your replies, and ‘listening’.
It’s always amusing to hear wooden headed progressives lump Tim McVeigh in as an example when talking about the causes of 9/11. McVeigh, Hitler, Stalin , Mao etc never killed in the name of religion.
Not true, 20th century was the bloodiest century of all time. Almost entirely done by the hands of atheist.
Its hard to judge as Muslim countries arent very open about their activities. Only after Saddam fell did we find the hundreds of mass graves in Iraq, for example.
Considering that in the allegedly Christian nation of the U.S. since 1973 politically-sanctioned abortions have murdered 50 million unborn children (when does the number qualify as genocide?), the debate on the winner could be close.
The Muslims 'win' this contest hands down.
That's not even true. It's only the sort of racist, "Euro-centric" bias that leftists love to deride in other contexts that gives that impression.
The Sunni-Shi'ite wars down the centuries, the Mohammedan conquest of India, and Tamurlane's wars collectively slaughtered far more human beings than all of the "Christian" wars and pogroms, even leaving aside the dead from the initial expansion of Islam, the Middle Eastern slave-trade, the Muslim-on-Hindu violence at the time of Indian independence and intermittent anti-Christian and anti-Jewish pogroms that have afflicted those living under Muslim rule.
The problem is, Americans, by and large, are historically ignorant, and to the extent that they know history at all, it's American history and Western European history (with an occasional sneering reference to Russia and central Europe thrown in). They know about the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, the Thirty Years War and lesser European wars of religion, the Atlantic slave-trade, and the European conquest and settlement of the Americas (and maybe the Black Hundreds if their school's curriculum took long enough in sneering at Russia).
The sea of blood that is the history of Islam is completely unknown to American liberals (and was to most American conservatives until 9/11 obliged us to start paying attention), along with the rest of world history.
thanks. :)
McVeigh was an agnostic at best, and more likely an atheist, with a strong dislike of organized religion. The meme that McVeigh was a Christian is a lie propagated by the leftist/Islamic complex.
But did he do what he did in the name of Christ? i don,t think so and neither are the millions of abortions each year.
The killings has nothing to do with anything in the Christian belief.
The point is that the liberals are trying to make the world believe it has something to do with Christian teaching, and it don,t.
If a Christian does something bad, these anti Christs want the world to believe it was because he or she was a christian, so that the world will shun Christianity.
Many Christians do not read the Bible, not to mention the people who are not Christians, even many Christians will turn away just because of these anti Christs sharing their views on the national news.
These people are not concerned of the right or wrong of anything, their only concern is the war against Christ.
Who is it that promotes abortion? the liberals.
Who is it that promotes gay marriage? the liberals.
Who is it that promotes unwed motherhood? the liberals.
How many abortions would there be if the above were not so?
How many killings would there have been if not for Mohamed, Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and all of the others who were not Christians?
Nope, it is not about Christians, it is about Christ the, the Lord.
Don’t let anyone frame the debate in such general terms as Muslims and Christians.
The debate should be about which religion is militant against any other religion and the militant tenets drive the religionists to war and plunder areas under control of other religions.
There may have been a very small window of time—1096-1270 years of the Crusades—in which Christians were urged to make war against Muslims—but that was a very small slice of history.
On the other hand, Islam has been at war with neighboring areas which are not Muslim since its inception in 622 , virtually without pause. It is a basic tenet of the relgion and the only religion to have that warlike position as a foundation.
The argument should be, "Who is killing more RIGHT NOW?"
Arguably, Islamic terrorists around the world are the number on killers of innocent civilians today.
Darn fingers...
Well, there was that little dust-up in Europe between Catholics and Protestants that spawned a couple of centuries worth of wars; and ended up killing about a third of Germany, plus however many others in England, France, Spain, and elsewhere.....
