In Christ Alone lyrics
Songwriters: Getty, Julian Keith; Townend, Stuart Richard;
In Christ alone my hope is found He is my light, my strength, my song This Cornerstone, this solid ground Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace When fears are stilled, when strivings cease My Comforter, my All in All Here in the love of Christ I stand
In Christ alone, who took on flesh Fullness of God in helpless Babe This gift of love and righteousness Scorned by the ones He came to save
?Til on that cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied For every sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live, I live
There in the ground His body lay Light of the world by darkness slain Then bursting forth in glorious Day Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory Sin?s curse has lost its grip on me For I am His and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ
BTW I do follow this thread allot...but am in the busy season at work. Doing catch up here at home today and visting FR in between chores! Ha! I think I am addicted!
I wonder it that was a transitional stage (ο παλεο [των] ηεμερων) between ancient Greek (ο παλαιος των ημερων) and modern Greek (το παλαιο των ημερων)
The icon does look old but not ancient. Maybe it was some Serb attempting to write in Greek! Who else would leave out artciles! :)
I’m afraid to ask. :O)
“So much for the unity of Catholicism.”
The Church, sadly, is rent with schisms and has been ever since Pope Dioscorus of Alexandria refused to accept the dogmatic declaration of the two natures of Christ by the Council of Chalcedon in 451 and later when Rome went its own way in the 11th century.
“how many different flavors of Catholicism are there? 30,000 or so?”
Oh, no, not at all. There are basically three “flavors”, the Churches whose hierarchs are in communion with the Bishop of Rome, (what FR chooses to call “Catholic” churches), the Churches whose hierarchs are in communion with the Patriarchs of Constantinople, Antioch, Alexandria, Jerusalem, and Moscow (the Orthodox Churches) and the Oriental Orthodox Churches (the Non Chalcedonian Churches) whose hierarchs are likewise in communion with each other. Within each group there is an absolute identity of Faith; as between the groups, there is a greater or lesser degree of identity, with the Orthodox and Orientals, greater, with the Orthodox (or Oriental Orthodox) and the “Catholics” lesser.
that should be Serbian minds
Do you want the answer the nuns taught me? :)
“God made me to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him for ever in the next.”
Still pretty good 50 years + later.
Yeah. Exactly. And each flavor has at least 5 different accounts here at FreeRepublic!!! XD
See if you can get them all to give up their multiple accounts. That was funny when you did that last time!
LOL...LOL... now you do know the answer don’t you?? LOL Ohhh yes the Queen is also a ladder.. never ending blasphemy
Ahhh the Baltimore catechism response, also memorized by me (more than 50 years ago ) LOL
That is far closer than stfassisi answer
RN-Why did God create man?
Out of love for love with a free will to choose His love or reject it
There is actually a more biblical response although i think the baltimore catechism, so often snickered at these days , is true, as far as it goes ,it is less than complete ..
I am waiting for Stfrans answer :)
Funny, that's pretty well what I posted. I further posted that it is a matter of misinterpretation of men.
"The wrath of God is indeed being revealed from heaven against every impiety and wickedness of those who suppress the truth by their wickedness. For what can be known about God is evident to them, because God made it evident to them." [Rm. 1:18-19]
Notice the change from the OT. Here, God is wrathful at impiety and wickedness. In the OT, God is wrathful at individuals. This is a failing of the children of the Reformation - to pick up that difference.
"What if God, wishing to show his wrath and make known his power, has endured with much patience the vessels of wrath made for destruction?" [Rm. 9:22]
A rhetorical question. What if?
"But if you do evil, be afraid, for it does not bear the sword without purpose; it is the servant of God to inflict wrath on the evildoer. Therefore, it is necessary to be subject not only because of the wrath but also because of conscience." [Rm. 13:4-5]
This is cherry picked in the middle of a general instruction of being loyal to the civil authorities.
No, wrong question .. what did Jesus do about it? He died on the cross to appease the wrath of God..
Let's have the Gospel verse to support this statement.
Are you saying that you guys need us as much as we need you?
Would you say this is not true?
No, because the passage from the WCF is Arian heresy.
“Ahhh the Baltimore catechism response,...”
You got it, RNMom! We could never forget those lessons no matter how many years later, could we! Imagine what those Irish Sisters of Mercy thought when it was the Greek Orthodox kid with the Irish name who memorized that response first in the class! :)
I suppose the Biblical and Patristic answer is really more simple than the Catechism one. God made us to be in His image and also, I think more importantly, in His Likeness.
How about the World to Come and skip all the blood and guts?
ROTFL! You know me too well...
Onstage in Rome, a singing John Paul II [spend three hours with the singing, dancing JPII]
No, because it breaks down in the "next" world, where the saved will be (1) either without free will, or (2) with free will but unable (or somehow not inclined) to commit sin. Either way, the free will is the first casualty. Why not just make man "not inclined" to sin and spare us the drama?
Yeah, kids are like that. Wasting time to find proof of a fantastic tale is truly juvenile.
No, the only thing juvenile is when rational grown up people believe in talking animals and magic, like children. Kids usually don't ask for proof. They just believe what grownups tell them. But where convincing is in order, it's quote easy to get kids to beileve in Santa (or anythign for that matter) with very little if any proof. A few presentes and a trick with a glass of milk and a cookie is enough to make them believers.
At least the kid have an excuse.
Christian faith is a 'sanctuary' to you? You might want to start all over, again, or just give up.
Yeah, a mental sancutary, imoan escape, a hope, a wish, a desire, etc.
If by "God" you mean the man-made deity, then you are right. Nothing so far has convinced me that what some groups claim to be "God" is really God.
So, no I don't believe in your God, but I am not saying there is no God.
