In Christ Alone lyrics

Songwriters: Getty, Julian Keith; Townend, Stuart Richard;

In Christ alone my hope is found He is my light, my strength, my song This Cornerstone, this solid ground Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

What heights of love, what depths of peace When fears are stilled, when strivings cease My Comforter, my All in All Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone, who took on flesh Fullness of God in helpless Babe This gift of love and righteousness Scorned by the ones He came to save

?Til on that cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied For every sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live, I live

There in the ground His body lay Light of the world by darkness slain Then bursting forth in glorious Day Up from the grave He rose again

And as He stands in victory Sin?s curse has lost its grip on me For I am His and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ

It was a cake walk. There was so much material available that it took almost no time at all.

It gets trashed because it is as close to the gospel as you can get and the sinfulness of man (even Christians) cannot stand the light.

That's pretty profound Harley, exactly what I expect from you! ;-)

The closer you get to the core of Christianity the more you are reviled. Notice how in the Reformed/Evangelical vs. Catholic debates we are personally attacked. In contrast we just point out the Romanist errors.

Sources? Links> Documentation? Proof that it was Mary herself and she said that, which I find highly improbable in that culture. The former is an invention of mariophobic Protestants who seriously think that the Mother of God, after giving a miraculous birth to the divine Son, proceeded to fool around with her husband nd obliterate the proof of that very miracle.

Fool Around? It's her legally married husband. That phrase makes it sound like she's hooking up in the back seat of the family station wagon.

Lots of children were considered a sign of God's blessing in those days. If she had only one, she would not have been considered blessed.

This is rather an odd position for the Catholic church to take here considering their position on large Catholic families and birth control.

"Obliterate proof of the miracle"???

Exactly what kind of *proof* of the miracle of the virgin birth would her having sex with her husband obliterate that giving birth would not?

You know there's really only one way to determine virginity? I can't believe that you are implying that that occurred to *prove* the miracle.

The only requirement for the prophecy is that a virgin conceive and bear a son. What happens or happened after that is irrelevant.

"Our job is to trust God and to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in truth."

I noticed that nowhere do the Calvinists ever mention actually having to live the Gospels and put to practice the teachings of Jesus. What a pity they will never know the joy that comes from putting others ahead of yourself and that Salvation does not mean clawing one's self into Heaven at the expense of everyone else.

The so-called “proof” story comes from the fraudulent Infancy Gospel of James.

“And she said to her: Salome, Salome, I have a strange sight to relate to thee: a virgin has brought forth — a thing which her nature admits not of. Then said Salome: As the Lord my God liveth, unless I thrust in my finger, and search the parts, I will not believe that a virgin has brought forth.
20. And the midwife went in, and said to Mary: Show thyself; for no small controversy has arisen about thee. And Salome put in her finger, and cried out, and said: Woe is me for mine iniquity and mine unbelief, because I have tempted the living God; and, behold, my hand is dropping off as if burned with fire.”

She could have had other children; that would have been consistent with her married status and certainly no sin.

By your own admission, then, you can't be sure. Therefore you can't accuse me of lying.

She just didn't, so it is a lie to say that she did.

And you know this how? Who told you? Where's the documentation?

If this is so critically important, why didn't the Catholic church do a better job of writing the Bible (as Catholics claim) and clear that up? Why say *brothers* and *sisters* instead of *cousins* and leave people in confusion? That's not very responsible of them.

They could have come right out and said, "And after Mary had given birth, she and Joseph lead a celibate life as husband and wife, remaining ever virgin, having no other children but Jesus"; and called those who Catholics say were cousins, "cousins" instead of "brothers" and "sisters".

Then Matthew 13:55-56 could have read....

Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren cousins, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? And his sisters cousins, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?

Or in Matthew 12:46-48 While he was still speaking to the people, behold, his mother and his brothers cousins stood outside, asking to speak to him. But he replied to the man who told him, "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?"

But then, Jesus' response in verses 49 and 50 would have made no sense. Matthew 49-50 And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother."

We are Catholics, we do what is good and avoid doing what is wrong.

Then why the need for confession? Why the uncertainty of where you (pl) end up when you (pl) die?

We are Catholics, we do what is good and avoid doing what is wrong. You should do the same.

BTW, nice finessing of the guidelines. That gets a 9.8...

Ephesians 2:8&9 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

PROJECTION ALERT:

” What a pity they will never know the joy that comes from putting others ahead of yourself and that Salvation does not mean clawing one’s self into Heaven at the expense of everyone else.”

.
Could we just buy an indulgence like catholics do?

The only mass that I really loved was the midnight mass on Christmas Eve. That one I didn’t mind if it went longer.

YES! Absolutely the best. And the church was always packed.

We could walk, too, but not everyone could. And there were a fair number of old people who just couldn’t make it that few blocks on foot.

The question ‘are you going to midnight mass’ started two weeks earlier. Now that I look back, it was a big event.

because the word “brother” is often referring to relative not of the same mother.

What else can you pull out of that magic hat? Something like Mary had a sister whose name is Mary, also! Incredible lengths Catholics need to go to in order to defend heresy.

From the Bible alone it is possible to conclude that Mary had other children, but it is also possibleto conclude that she did not.

James 1:8 "That man should NOT think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a DOUBLE-MINDED man, unstable in all his ways."

The latter is what the Church teaches based on the knowledge that the Church revceived from Mary herself.

LOL! Now the church is a first hand witness when they weren't even around! Did she say 'oh, by the way, those children over there aren't mine, they are Joseph's by my sister, Mary. I was too pure for him.

And, this happened on the day of Assumption, right? Because the church (that wasn't in existence at the time) was there, time travel. But Peter a Jew was the first Catholic, so she must have told him. Poor Peter's mitre must have fallen off after hearing that news - it probably made those keys jingle.

Headlines the next day: Mary, wife of Joseph, denies her children!

after giving a miraculous birth to the divine Son, proceeded to fool around with her husband nd obliterate the proof of that very miracle

THE MIRACULOUS was implanted - it was the 'seed' that made it all come about. So if she had other children, Jesus would have disappeared?
