I should have clarified, those were the elevations at our destinations. The climbing/hiking was tough, especially Whitney. We had a group of 12 go on that one. A football player couldn’t summit due to altitude sickness. 11 out of 12 summiting was good, would have preferred we all made it. Even those that are in great shape can get knocked down by altitude sickness. It affects everyone differently.

Some of the boys and adults in our Troop are going to Philmont Scout Ranch in NM next summer. 10-12 day trek through the Sangre de Cristo Mtns. I think the highest we go is 12,000’.
For me, it’s a once in a lifetime event. Won’t miss it.

In that link, ‘mormonabuse.com,’ attorney states 150 cases of child abuse. However, those include Catholic Church, Boy Scouts, Protestant Churches, as well as Mormon. No numerical breakdown per org/religion.

Mrreaganut and I were leaders in Youth, and AWANA for years for the same reason. I love working with the youth, and yeah the impact is important.

I've heard great things about Philmont. Are you in a LDS Charter org? I haven't been there, but I thought Philmont was largely LDS based?

Those are just the ones HE has worked on. There are more. Based on membership numbers alone there are probably cases in the Catholic church, nevertheless my point is made that Mormons ALSO cover up abuse.
Again, my friend just found out that her bishop covered up abuse in his ward for years, including the abuse of her son. And yes, she is filing charges.

I agree, Smith built upon the views of Campbell, Smith’s theology was evolving in the early years and that can be seen clearly as can Campbell’s influence. There are some good studies on the relationship between the two.
Dan Vogel, D. Michael Quinn and the recent Rigdon Bio also have quite a bit of info on the two groups and their connections.

With conditioning, you may find that some of the hikes may be within your capabilities. I’d definitely check with your Dr. (which you’ll have to do anyway to get your medical forms).
Not with an LdS unit any longer. I just couldn’t get the support.
As for LdS at Philmont, I know the church holds events there once or twice a year where they bring in hundreds of leaders to hold training sessions. I think some of them go out on some of the treks as well.
Do you get the church’s Scouting newsletter? I recall seeing reports about LdS Scouters at Philmont.
