Archdiocese of Detroit: Stay away from liberal Catholic conference
Catholic Answers ^ | October 13, 2010 | Detroit Free Press

The Archdiocese of Detroit is warning Catholics in metro Detroit ... to stay away from a national conference of liberal Catholics to be held in Detroit next year. And Archbishop of Detroit Allen Vigneron is calling upon organizers of the conference to cancel their plans, saying they are in opposition to the Catholic faith.

The American Catholic Council, which calls for church reforms and greater openness, is set to hold a national gathering in June 2011 featuring progressive Catholic leaders near the 35th anniversary of the ‘Call to Action,’ a Detroit gathering in 1976 that urged reform and was held by the late Cardinal John Dearden of Detroit....

I'm just posting this with the Catholic Answers link in order to avoid copyright issues: from there you can link to the Detroit Free Press and related info.

Here's a big Thank God that the Archbishop (Allen Vigneron) is confronting these aggravating gender-bewildered doctrinally-challenged defectors-in-place and mutagens ... I mean, these (hmm) dear in-duh-viduals... and standing up like a blessed biped to defend Catholic doctrine at long last.

I think it would be wonderful if some faithful Catholic FReepers would

Just a couple ideas off the top of my head :o)

Refreshing! When we were putting together a meeting about Vision 2000, the Catholic schools version of Goals 2000, I asked the principal of my kids' elementary school if I could give the school flyers to go home with the kids inviting all parents to our meeting. When I checked back with the principal later in the day she said "No. The (Detroit) Archdiocese said we are to stay away from this group (our group) because they are too conservative."

I like this new Archbishop.

Too bad no one warned people here in L.A. about the congress sponsored by the Archdiocese here. With “Liturgical dancers” and 3 classes on global warning. Wow! what a Catholic event s/.

featuring progressive Catholic leaders

They are not Catholic leaders. They are not really Catholic and they are not leading Catholics.

Thank you for showing Catholic Answers Forum. I’ve been able to show my son about Latae Sententiae, the Canon Law that Catholics must obey regarding abortion and heresy.
And today, I learned about Pope Leo XIII’s famous encyclical Rerum Novarum, warning Catholics against Socialism.

Our Lady's Warriors>Dissent>Organizations

Solemn Warning! The following organizations are those who claim to be Catholic but dissent from the Truth as handed down from Jesus Christ, Second Person of the Most Blessed Trinity, the Divine Word, to His Apostles and their successors, the Pope and the Magisterium. These organizations are truly following in the footsteps of JUDAS - Just Undermine Doctrine And Spirituality. While they claim to be Catholic, they promote a man-made religion of unfettered pro-sin "choice" by the individual answerable to no one but himself (herself for the feminist reader), while promoting the spirituality of pagans. We all know what the serpent said to Eve; "you shall be as Gods" (Genesis 3:5).

American Old Catholic Church

This group directly states their differences from being real Catholics. They:

  • do not accept the teaching of papal infallibility
  • claim independence of the pope
  • refuse to be bound by some of the canon laws and regulations
  • permit priests and bishops to marry
  • encourage women to be ministers of the church (priestesses)
  • allow divorced but not annulled people who remarry to participate in the sacraments
  • allow artificial contraception
  • invite all baptized Christians to the sacraments, regardless of the state of their souls (i.e. mortal sins, many of which are listed above) thus encouraging sacrilege

I thought this was part of the “American Catholic Church” which is a non - church. But the article says council. Perhaps I am mistaken.

Or are they trying to re-work their name?

Here's what Catholic Answers found out:

And here the website of the American Catholic Council: http://americancatholiccouncil.org/

I'll admit, I don't recall ever hearing about this organization. According to the FAQ on their website, the organization was created specifically to host this meeting in Detroit:

Quote:
Who is behind this gathering?

Catholics, committed to the principles of Vatican II. We ground ourselves in our common baptism giving us rights and responsibilities to continue the mission of Christ on earth. We are a movement of individuals and representatives of organizations committed to the fullness of the Catholic Church. As Vatican II Catholics we are united under a new banner, the American Catholic Council.

Quote:
What are your goals?

To foster and facilitate assemblies of Catholics on local and regional levels, to learn about the roles and responsibilities of all Catholics, as envisioned by Vatican II, and then to meet in a Council to give voice to all Baptized Catholics. At this Council, we hope to proclaim our common belief of those rights and responsibilities.

And here are some of the organizations and individuals behind this Detroit meeting:
