Mormons (LDS) Know More About Bible Than Other Christians

Atheists and agnostics know more about major world religions than many people of faith, while Mormons can answer more Bible questions than their Catholic and mainline Protestant counterparts.
Those are among the somewhat startling conclusions about religious literacy in America the Pew Research Centers Forum on Religion and Public Life drew after surveying 3,412 Americans.
Some of the multiple-choice questions were relatively simple: Where was Jesus born and who led the exodus from Egypt? What religion was Mother Teresa, what day does the Jewish Sabbath begin and what is the name of Islams holy book?
Others were more obscure: What is Indonesias dominant religion? Which Christians teach that salvation comes through faith alone?
About half the Protestants (53 percent) couldnt correctly identify Martin Luther as the person whose writings and actions inspired the Protestant Reformation. Fewer than half of Americans (47 percent) knew the Dalai Lama is Buddhist and only 38 percent correctly associated Vishnu and Shiva with Hinduism.
John Morehead, director of the Western Institute for Intercultural Studies in Salt Lake City, had already noted religious illiteracy in the general population as well as in the evangelical community. But he did not expect Mormons to top them in their biblical fluency.
Mormons tend to emphasize Mormon scriptures like the Book of Mormon rather than the Bible in their devotional life, Morehead said in an e-mail.
Even some LDS scholars were surprised to find Mormons at the top.

My sons didn't get to the furbearing trout but they had their 8-year-old sister convinced of jackalope this summer when we were driving through Wyoming. The clincher was the gas stop where the convenience store had a jackalope head mounted and the postcards in the rack. At that point, I pulled the plug on the joke. You clearly need to educate your sons. The plains jackalope of Wyoming is different from the mountain jackalope of Montana/Idaho. Commonly misunderstood by Wyomingites. LOL.

Nah, we're in SoCal, not in the Northern regions of the US where that species of trout is purported to be found. ;^) LOL, ah yes 'valley' trout.

To my great delight Colofornian and I agree on a Gospel topic.
The Jews of Jesus’ day would not believe that he was also Yahweh.
Now why wouldn’t they?

As long as everyone is warm and dry, Labor Day weekend on the Canadian border can get PRETTY nippy!
And a 4 man rainfly on a 6 man tent doesn't protect quite enough. A few of my campmates had a LONG 4 days before we were due to be picked up again! (Soggy sleeping bags are NO fun and impossible to dry!)

the plains jackalopes have horns which they retain year round, the mountain jackalopes have antlers that get shed seasonally.

(Soggy sleeping bags are NO fun and impossible to dry!)I was bowhunting elk in Idaho one time in early October. I was planning on a short swing through an area which sometimes held elk. It was mid-morning, a nice warm day, and I was going to within a hour of truck the whole time, so I went out dressed in fairly light-weight cotton camos. In five minutes, it went from sunny to dark clouds. I'd never seen a storm roll in that quickly. Then the clouds opened and I got soaked to the skin. By the time I got back to my truck I was shivering uncontrollably. I know that is a sign of hypothermia but I figured I could make it back to my truck and I did. (I did have waterproof matches and firemaking materials, so I could have stopped and made a fire.)

How about you explain the Mormonism concept of eternal progression to us, starting with what existed before god created the Universe of all things.
Sure, right after you explain the trinity and transubstantiation to my satisfaction....
Yeah...
I asked how denigrating a man's faith affected the denigrator's soul...
When opposing blasphemies, it regales a Christian's soul, Delph. Didn't you know? Are you familiar with the opposition to Baal worship written about in the Old Testament and alluded to by Paul in the New Testament? Mormons are not Baal Worshipers, Paul never denigrated anyone's faith. Your analogy is insulting and innocent of factual basis.
Then you topped it with this illogical verbiage:
The entire of Mormonism is founded upon denigrating ALL of Christianity. Have you forgotten? Your 'prophet' and subsequent leaders of the LDS have proclaimed that all of Christianity was in apostasy until Joseph Smith 'restored the gospel'. ROTFLOL!!!
The Bible is replete with prophets being called to call repentance to those in apostasy, I guess to you the Prophets who preached repentance were all dengrators...
Jesus Christ called all men to repent and come to the true gospel, I guess you think he was just another denigrator.
The disagreement with Mormons often starts or ends with the Trinity Vs. Godhead. The common argument of the "Orthodox" is that we Mormons say we are Christians, but since we don't believe the Trinity we can't be. Which is just silly. The First council at Nicea was not held until 325Ad. which mans that all who died with a faith in Jesus before that time were not Christians, including Jesus and the Disciples.
Next you act all wounded. As if my belief hurts you, grow a thicker skin, at least we're not damning you to hell or calling you a demon.
If my chosen religion was founded on a lie, have you ever read the "stuff" that went on in some of the pope(s) bedchambers?
And to play one of your little ploys, I fully expect you will go off on a tangent and not answer the questions of precisely how LDS inc defines eternal progression and the preexistence of eternal matter in which a mortal became the God of Heaven and sired Jesus and Lucifer 'from His loins exalted'.
Actually, I'd be happy to, once I point out that I am not required to answer your interrogatories, but i will happily do so to show how little you know of our beliefs and the Bible.
The Bible in
Romans 8:16-17 Says:
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
So, if we are saved with Christ we will become like him and like God inheriting "all the father hath", just like Jesus for the Bible says we will be Joint heirs with him, and we do more than just believe in the Bible, we believe what it says.
Now as to the second part of your question,
Do Mormons Believe Jesus and Satan are brothers? it's been answered for a long time on my page, link above, so obviously I don't feel the need to run from an answer I have posted on my page.
Again, I find your knowledge of the Bible lacking, whether intentional, or unintentional it is the same. You ask questions designed to be unanswerable, how frustrated you must be when we slice through your "Gordian Knots" with the sword of truth,
Jesus lives! He is my God my Salvation. In his bosom, I rest.
God bless.
P.S. Now I am back to where there is a computer I can use, posting from my phone is just not as effective.

You claimed to have the authority to judge my religion and find it lacking, I called you on your lack of priesthood authority, then you posted that I was judging you because of my priesthood, I was not and said so.
If there is confusion, it is because you ask complicated questions the answers to which hitting all the points confuse you, well, don't ask questions whose answers you can't follow.

The context of everythign said by Christ and others is well known, it encompasses the entire Bible which has to be taken as a whole even when considering a single verse
Ah yes the old
bandwagon fallacy, we all know that Sam is a murderer, why do we have to wait for the formality of a trial? (If you are Sam, and are innocent, you want that trial, if you are the real murderer, you don't want Sam to have a trial.)
Then you blather on about what Jesus meant when he was speaking... You are not him.
There is a huge difference between calling your brother a fool (so you don't have to listen to him) and disagreeing (politely) with what he has to say. The mere fact that you are equating the two means you are not serious about the discussion, but are merely a bomb thrower intent on blowing up the discussion.
Then you end with this little Jem:
Ironically the same courtesy is extend to you in many ways, for you bring us many questionable words and ideas. For all I know you may well be a Baptist playing the devil's advocate, but all we have to go on is what you say how you represent yourself and what you say you stand for, which is clearly in contradiction to the words of Christ. If that is taken personally, perhaps saying nothing is better, for as long as one tries to run counter to the body of Christ and lead men astray the fight will be joined...
If there is courtesy being extended to me here by the anti crowd, then I missed it.
I am quoting directly from the Bible, so my words cannot be in contradiction with Christianity, they are merely in contradiction with the DOGMA of the "Orthodox Christianity" which is on purpose..
The only thing I object to is a summary dismissal without examining the evidence and without a prayer of truth being revealed (pun intended)
Anti's tend to name call, declare victory, damn us to hell, impugn character, and many other techniques designed to end the debate without a fair hearing of the evidence which of necessity will be on both sides.
Thus antis typically do not want a fair trail, they want a lynching.
Jesus is my judge, and I demand a trial before him, and I am to be presumed innocent until found guilty by him. Anything else is usurping his authority and position as my judge and savior. Anything else is to act in Christs stead. anything else is to border on being an anti-Christ.
Good night and God bless.
