At sundown, we begin Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. In the Scriptures, the Israelites were commanded by the Lord to fast and pray and bring their sacrifices to the Temple in Jerusalem, and then to ask for the Lord’s forgiveness for all the sins they and their nation had committed that year. Only the sacrifice of a perfect animal, done with a humble, repentant heart, and with faith in God’s mercy and grace, would bring about forgiveness of sins.
“For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.” (Leviticus 17:11) “In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” (Hebrews 9:22) The problem is: What does one do to receive atonement in the modern age, without a Temple? How can one make sacrifices and receive forgiveness of sins — and thus the right to enter the holiness of heaven and live with the Lord in heaven forever and ever — without being able to sacrifice a perfect lamb at the Temple in Jerusalem, where the Lord designated all sacrifices to occur? The destruction of the Temple by the Romans in 70 A.D. was a huge blow to Judaism, because it deprived Jews of the place to receive atonement from God.

If by this you are asking me if I respect the authority of the Pope, the answer is no, I don't. Growing up I had to kneel in front of an archbishop, now I only bow my knee in front of the King of kings. As for your friend, I'm sorry for him/her, you could help by explaining the concept of transubstantiation.
Communion is symbolic. The Eucharist is imaginary cannibalism and unscriptural. In the Bible it is condemned to eat human flesh or drink human blood or pretend you are for that matter.
Why I LOVE my Catholic Religion....we have CONFESSSION almost whenever you want to go, there will be a Priest ready to hear your confession!!!

This is one thing I love about the Jewish faith: they ask for forgiveness of thier sins in a day of atonement. If they don’t follow through then it is worthless. I wish all people would do this.

I kind of have to laugh at Baptists who say they follow the BIBLE's ever word and yet don;t believe what the Bible says!!
WHen you knelt in front of the Archbishop, you were receiving Holy Communion.

Consider the example of Peter, who you regard as the 1st Pope. Surely, if anyone would demonstrate the Roman example of confession, it would be him, correct?
Acts 8:18-24
“18And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,
19Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.
20But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.
21Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.
22Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.
23For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.
24Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the LORD for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.”
When Simon, who had been baptized into the Church, committed a grave sin, Peter admonishes him. Does Peter then advise him to confess his sin and receive penance? No, Peter advises him to repent of his sin, and pray to the Lord for forgiveness. Not to repent, pray, then come back to Peter for confession, but to receive forgiveness directly from the Lord!
Simon even asks Peter to pray for him that he may escape judgment, and yet even though Simon seems to be appealing to Peter’s power as an Apostle, as if he believes the Lord will respect Peter’s prayers more than Simon’s, we have no indication that Peter took this as a “confession” and prescribed penance. There is only silence to answer this request, as Acts moves on to the next part of the narrative.
So, if Peter, your “1st Pope” did not practice Roman confession, why do Catholics today not follow his example?

OMG!! “Pray to the Lord for me and ask that non of the things you have spoken of may befall me”. geesh.
From what I can see it is a bad attempt to mimic Jewish religious practices. The altar is raised and separated from the congregation, similar to how the High Priests in the Temple were the only ones to go into the Holy of Holies. The priests are supposed to have special powers not so different than the priest making the sacrifice in the Temple. The sacrifice of Jesus Christ is recreated on a daily basis for the forgiveness of sins not so dissimilar than the Jewish practice in Yom Kippur which is done once a year.
What they have failed to see is the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for us "finished it". The Lord's Supper is our remembrance of that moment.

Jesus paid the price in full for my sins. I simply have to ask forgiveness and try never do it again.
Any thing I could do would be as “filthy rags”.
It's refreshing to see your maturity and open mind... Anyhow, I'm going to bed because tomorrow I have to get up early, I don't go to church Saturday afternoon to "free Sunday up". I will spend the Lord's Day in the Lord's house. And I will pray for you... after all I don't need a priest for that.

Without repentance, there is no reconciliation with God, whether you are Catholic, Protestant, or whatever. So why bring up examples of people who are clearly unrepentant to attack other beliefs? They are not representative of anyone but themselves.
I’m sure there are many Catholics who just go to confession, and continue sinning as well. Would you admit that as proof that your own ritual has no power?

That truly has been the question for the entire 1600 years that the Roman apostasy has existed. Why do they not follow the clear examples and commandments of the Apostles?
