YOM KIPPUR: WHERE DO WE RECEIVE ATONEMENT TODAY?
Joel Rosenberg's Weblog ^ | September 17, 2010 | Joel Rosenberg

Posted on 09/18/2010 4:31:39 PM PDT by wmfights

At sundown, we begin Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. In the Scriptures, the Israelites were commanded by the Lord to fast and pray and bring their sacrifices to the Temple in Jerusalem, and then to ask for the Lord’s forgiveness for all the sins they and their nation had committed that year. Only the sacrifice of a perfect animal, done with a humble, repentant heart, and with faith in God’s mercy and grace, would bring about forgiveness of sins.

“For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.” (Leviticus 17:11) “In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” (Hebrews 9:22) The problem is: What does one do to receive atonement in the modern age, without a Temple? How can one make sacrifices and receive forgiveness of sins — and thus the right to enter the holiness of heaven and live with the Lord in heaven forever and ever — without being able to sacrifice a perfect lamb at the Temple in Jerusalem, where the Lord designated all sacrifices to occur? The destruction of the Temple by the Romans in 70 A.D. was a huge blow to Judaism, because it deprived Jews of the place to receive atonement from God.

Where did you get that Bible you worship? LOL. The Roman Catholic Chruch collated it, and you folks subtracted a few books from the real one. I’ll pray for you, nmh, at my Pagan Mary worshipping Mass tomorrow when I become a cannibal when I receive the Eucharist. (sarcasm). I will pray for your conversion to the one true Catholic Faith. It’s never too late, nmh.

You have just made an “ Admission against self interest” or in layman's terms made my point . By conceding the salient point that “There are scriptures that don't line up with each other”, there has been an historic need d for a magisterium to interpret such scripture. This has been accomplished for over 2000 years.

Since the reformation those faced with this apparent biblical incongruity resort to PRIVATE Interpretation to provide, not the answer provided by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit , but one to comfort their consciences. Worship of self instead of Jesus.

Christians are to follow the Word of Jesus not as you stated “Divide the Word of Truth which heretics have perfected for over 500 years.

Worship Jesus not self.

If you DO pray for me, pray TO Christ and use that as the beginning of a personal relationship with Him. Complain about me promoting His word. Complain about my rejecting dead sinners as deities. Only God has the attributes of omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient. Perhaps He will open your eyes. Be earnest.

Mary and other dead mortals you pray to are not omnipresent, omnipotent or omniscient. It's a waste of time and I believe it angers Him. God is a jealous God.

the Bible states that many times:

Exod.20:5

[5] Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

Exod.34:14

[14] For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

Deut.4:24

[24] For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.

Deut.5:9

[9] Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,

Deut.6:15

[15] (For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.

Christ is not going to share His throne with Mary. Christ was the one that paid for your salvation; not Mary. What kept Him on that cross was love for you. It's not too late for you ... .

Give up on me! I can't convert away from Biblical truth and I have no desire to do so. I know better. He knows I am loyal to Him. Mary and other dead sinners just don't compare to Christ. Get to know Him!

Give those verses some thought ...

Where did you get all of those verses? I’ll answer it for you: “the Catholic Church”. You know I’m correct. We, the Catholics, don’t hate you, but we know if you ever achieve salvation, it’s through Jesus and the Church he established through St. Peter. “the gates of hell shall never prevail against it.”

“The Roman Catholic Chruch collated it, and you folks subtracted a few books from the real one.”

No, it was God breathed and GOD IS IN CONTROL!

Simply labeling yourself, “Catholic” to stand for universal doesn't make it so. The Catholic Church deserted God and His teachings.

The Protestant Bible has 66 Books. The Catholic Bible has 73 Books. The Catholic Bible has 7 EXTRA BOOKS in the Old Testament. The Jews do NOT recognize and the Protestants do not recognize the EXTRA 7 Books in the Old Testament.

I love the Jewish people and I KNOW God would NOT steer them wrong. The 7 EXTRA BOOKS in the Catholic Bible were not believed to be inspired and even Jerome didn't want them included in the Latin Vulgate. The 7 EXTRA BOOKS that the Catholic Bible includes contradict the Bible. This is why there is more emphasis on "tradition" and other philosophers than the Bible.

“Where did you get all of those verses? “

The Bible - the Old Testament.

“I’ll answer it for you: “the Catholic Church”. You know I’m correct.”

The Catholic Church doesn't give you salvation or provide it to you. It is ONLY through Christ and belief in Him that salvation is available.

“We, the Catholics, don’t hate you, but we know if you ever achieve salvation, it’s through Jesus and the Church he established through St. Peter. “the gates of hell shall never prevail against it.”

I already am saved! SO you don't need to worry about me “ever achieving salvation”.

Christ established His own Church. It wasn't through impetuous Peter. It is Christ that died on the cross for YOU! Peter had his issues ... The “church” is the body of believers.

The Bible plainly states that Jesus is Head of the church. He is the one Lord in the one body (church). There cannot be two Lords any more than there could be two Gods (Eph. 4:4-6). Bishops (even from Rome) are forbidden to lord it over the flock (1 Peter 5:1-3). The Bible Says Jesus Is the Church's Foundation.

The Bible says: 1 Corinthians 3:11 - There can be no foundation other than Jesus. 1 Peter. 2:3-8 -

Peter himself taught that Jesus is the chief cornerstone on which the church is built. Acts 4:10-12. Matthew 16:13-18 - Matthew 16. also confirms this truth.

Christians should NEVER, EVER substitute a sinner or any mere mortal for Christ. A mere mortal can never substitute a deity. You may want os pend some time with a Bible other than NAV. You are not getting all the truth you need.

It’s 1am EST. I have to get some sleep.

Do yourself a favor, READ THE BIBLE! You will then see where we disagree. Try NIV.

right.....no matter WHAT you do...KILL, STEAL....CHEAT...ADULTERER....yes, he paid for your sins so you don’t EVER have to...yeah....go sin as much as you want to,

You should stop twisting words as that is not what Bible believing Christians believe.

So you and other Catholics never sin eh ? When you go to confession you think those hail Marys you say afterwards are what pays for your sins ? Your works pay for nothing because the sacrifice that pays for sins was already made at the cross “It is finished” Or is it that you think that if you die your chruch can pray your way to heaven ?
BTW just where in the Bible does it say to pray to Mary for forgiveness ?

I will STILL have to do time in Purgatory

Sad that you plan on spending time in hell.
Even sadder that you think your little elite club (church) can pray you out of hell(purgatory).
Even sadder that Catholics claim to be Christians yet don’t believe Jesus sacrifice was enough to cover their sins.

You sure do live up to your screen name ann archy as you rebel against God’s WORD and put your faith instead in men.

No they don’t mimic Jewish religious practices , they mimic the pagan practices of Nimrod and Semiramis at the tower of Babel.(the type of priesthood/infant baptism/the later/the queen of heaven - all this came from Nimrod)

sorry typo /the later/ should read the alter in my previous post .
(the Bible is very specific on how to build one and theirs does not fit the specifics)

I also should have mentioned the ashes applied to the forehead too - that also came from Babel

This has been accomplished for over 2000 years.

That foolishness would force one to conclude that the magisterium wrote the scriptures to the magisterium...And while that may be the Catholic perception as taught to you by your magisterium, the scripture teaches otherwise...

Eph 3:4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)

So again, the scriptures condemn the teaching of your magisterium (religion)...You can fool each other but you can't fool God...

The biblical reference in no fashion supports your flawed contention. The obvious misinterpretation of Eph 3:4 is prima facie evidence that there is an apparent failure to comprehend the import of the sacred message, accommodating its meaning to serve selfish needs and assuage the conscience.

Imperfect Christians employ these selfish prideful methodologies of referencing bible verses and then ascribing to them some false meaning supporting their erroneous interpretation.

All scripture has but one purpose that being to direct us to Jesus and as Eph 3 :4 states “ This mystery has been revealed through the Spirit” not for 30,000 + divided cults to conjure up discrete interpretations but as Jesus prayed in JN 17:21 "They all might be one".

Accept Jesus not selfish pride .

Today's Jews gain G-d's forgiveness today by reciting prayers describing the sacred rituals of old and yearning for the rebuilding of the Temple so that we may fulfill all of the rituals once more.

Thank you for the detailed explanation.

Sorry Charlie, that's not what the verse says, is it...

Eph 3:2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:
Eph 3:3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,
Eph 3:4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)

You telling me that an educated person like yourself can not read these simple scriptures and understand what they say???

Perhaps you do then need a magisterium to explain it to you but most folks with a 6th grade education can read and understand those scriptures and never miss a beat...

And the verses go on to explain what the mystery is, in simple, easy to understand language...But hey, sorry to hear you struggle with that...

The need to correctly interpret scripture must follow the mastery of basic Reading and Comprehension skills. You MISSED the word “AND “ in the first sentence of your posted referenced which discredits all of your rant. Sorry . By exposing such glaring deficiencies of interpretations of my simple post how then can one claim to interpret sacred scripture?

Do I detect a need for honing some elementary reading and comprehension education ?

Jesus saves not prideful self interpretation.

The priesthood was given to Aaron and his descendants FOREVER.

But YHvH destroyed the Temple for disobedience.

When the Temple is rebuilt, they will again practice.
