Seems to me that some people here like to focus on what's missing in Islam and ignore what is present. The behavior of those who want to burn copies of the Quran is repugnant to the Catholic Church, because it is based on the same kind of hatred and fear that drove the Nazis, Communists, French revolutionaries, Mexican revolutionaries and many other movements that oppressed people because of their faith, ethnicity, race, political influence or all the above.
The Vatican is trying to recognize goodness and truth where ever its found. The mistake made by previous popes, regarding Islam, was that their point of view was often affected by the political issues between the Christian world and the Muslim world. Today, the Church looks past those political conflicts. She does not deny that they exist. However, she states, that despite the political conflicts, we must accept that certain things found in Islam are good and true: prayer, defense for the unborn, value for family, love of God above all things, fidelity to conscience, hope for salvation, belief in a final judgment, belief in eternal life, acceptance of God as the source and end of all things and more. These are things that we believe. If we fail to acknowledge that these are good things, then we fail to acknowledge the good that is found in our own faith as well. To let the political differences between the Muslim world and the rest of the world obstruct our view of these truths is contrary to doctrine. Doctrine says that we must recognize grace where ever its found.
But, beheading IS islam
When you get the attention of the Pope, I’d say your 15 minutes are up.
They probably wouldn’t approve of this either.

Sir/mam
Muslims are children of Abraham. The Second Vatican Council infallibly teaches us this.
We don’t win souls over to Christ by using bullying tactics.
But flying airplanes into buildings is Islamic.
You are correct, sir.
But, this is not the season for winning souls.
I don’t care what the Second Vatican Council teaches. The BIBLE teaches that Muslims are descended from Abraham. But it affords them no special consideration. They are a different branch of the family tree.
Only Israel’s line provided the Savior.
So... reach out to muslims... just not with any limbs you can’t do without.
I prefered it when the church coordinated the Crusades.
Pardon me, your naivete is showing.
Islam is a complete competing system to Democracy. It is fascist, nihilistic and fatalistic. It is anti-life, and anti-Christ. Most Germans were benign too in WWII, yet they allowed their leaders to start a world war. It is far past time to deal with what Islam is, rather than pretending what it is not.
I never said anything about condoning what the Islamic fundamentalists do sir. If you fail to see grace where ever it is found then you are making yourself bigger than God.
pretty plain what God thinks of evil.
“Only Israels line provided the Savior.”
That may be, but we must recognize the good that’s in Islam. What we must remember is that an acknowledgement of the good is not a denial of the growth that is needed. At least they worship God. It’s a start.
Well... there are some who believed the Khmer Rouge espoused the fine traits of hard work, discipline, selflessness and a sense of community... it was just those pesky little tendencies of extreme oppression and rampant murder that annoyed the rest of us.
Only the Sacraments are infallible.
What would that be?
Sigh,
The Church tells us in the CCC that:
“841 The Church’s relationship with the Muslims. ‘The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day.”
and,
843 The Catholic Church recognizes in other religions that search, among shadows and images, for the God who is unknown yet near since he gives life and breath and all things and wants all men to be saved. Thus, the Church considers all goodness and truth found in these religions as “a preparation for the Gospel and given by him who enlightens all men that they may at length have life.”
Sooner or later, these two religions will merge.
