It's going to sound odd, but, once upon a time, these 3 qualities were also instilled in public schools, apart from religion.
Fast forward to the 20th oops, 21st century. Somehow, these values are still around, but they are... different. (File this under "Yet another reason to Homeschool")
Students shout, "YOU respect ME,______(*)!!!"
(*)various usual and unusual explicatives deleted)
Auto Reply from Substitute: Blank expression, icy stare. If a verbal response is required, add: "Young man/lady, respect is something that is earned. You have not yet earned mine. Sit down!"

as is the primary goal of public schools everywhere.
