"Feed my lambs, tend my sheep, feed my sheep."

The command intended for all those called to minister to God's people. How this became twisted to single out "The Pope" is beyond logic. The fact that Peter was faithful is without doubt. Unfortunately, we lose track of context and immediate audience when interpreting scripture. Then we begin to elevate men to levels nearing that of God Himself.

Cyprian of Carthage, an early church leader (3rd Century) was adamantly against elevating a particular bishop (in the case of the Catholic Church - that was the Bishop of Rome) above the other Bishop. His view was radically different from what the growing church hierarchy wanted. Instead - he believed (and seemingly in agreement with the writings of the Apostle Paul) that all Bishops were equal in God's eyes and had an equal voice. He was vilified for his belief. Yet despite his very outspoken position against a central church ruler or "Pope", he later was recognized as a "saint".

Christ built His church upon what? A man? Or is the church built upon Christ Jesus Himself?
