Under the headline, Saint or Sinner?, the Sun newspaper perpetuates the calumny that Cardinal Newman was involved in a homosexual relationship with Fr. Ambrose St John.
The Sun journalist, Jenna Sloan writes: An English cleric some believe to have been gay is moving to sainthood. It is a hugely controversial move as homosexuality is strictly prohibited in the Catholic church. Some historians and campaigners claim the cardinal had a relationship with his best friend Father Ambrose St John a view vehemently denied by the Church.
Protect the Pope comment: Ignoring the considered judgement of Newman scholars, such as Fr Ian Kerr, the Sun decides to print the lie being spread by gay activists, who impose their distorted view of sexuality onto men who had a virtuous understanding of friendship. By so doing, the Sun does us all a disservice by falsely sexualising the idea of friendship between men. This is cheap and nasty journalism. Sadly, Archbishop Nichols piece on Cardinal Newman does not address the calumny against Cardinal Newmans good name. Maybe he didnt know.
Interestingly, despite posting this sort of pap, here is an extract from their terms and conditions:

- Breaks the law, or encourages other to break it;
- Makes defamatory comments about others;
…etc.…
Pity they couldn't follow their own rules.
You’re right mark. This follows the cardinal law of progressivism: what’s okay for me is not okay for you, unless I say so.
Among the worst things queer activists have done is to badly damage the concept of friendship.
I love my friends and have no problem holding their hand when we walk or patting their cheeks and giving them a hug.
What is most damaging is the perception now that affection shown in friendship means one is hiding in the closet.
Everything is reduced in the homosexual activists view to a single lustful act. Everything revolves around their sexual proclivities and colors their lives.
It’s disgusting.
Just plant the suspiscion and it becomes true, just like what they did to Pope Pius XII, just what they do to conservatives. “All the news we want you to believe.”
