"Wherever politics tries to be redemptive, it is promising too much. Where it wishes to do the work of God, it becomes not divine, but demonic." Pope Benedict XVI: SACRAMENTUM CARITATIS

While I can appreciate how you might have perceived my remarks as being "unchristian", they were offered in christian charity. If it is possible, please step back from the argument and consider the following. Up until the Reformation, only one group of christians had separated themselves from the Church founded by Christ - the Orthodox. Essentially, for 1,000 years, there was only one christian church - the Catholic Church. It was the Catholic Church that compiled the Bible. As one who loves scripture, you realize, of course, that according to the Bible Itself, the Church is the "pillar of truth" (1 Timothy 3:15), not the Bible
Was individual interpretation of Scripture practiced by the early Christians or the Jews? Again, "NO" (Acts 8:29-35). The assertion that individuals can correctly interpret Scripture is false. Even the "founder" of Sola Scriptura (Martin Luther), near the end of his life, was afraid that "any milkmaid who could read" would found a new Christian denomination based on his or her "interpretation" of the Bible. Luther opened a "Pandora's Box" when he insisted that the Bible could be interpreted by individuals and that It is the sole authority of Christianity. Why do we have over 30,000 different non-Catholic Christian denominations? The reason is individuals' "different" interpretations of the Bible. Can there be more than one interpretation of the Bible? No. The word "truth" is used several times in the New Testament. However, the plural version of the word "truth" never appears in Scripture. Therefore, there can only be one Truth. So how can there be over 30,000 non-Catholic Christian denominations all claiming to have the "Truth" (i.e., the correct interpretation of the Bible)? For that matter, aren't ALL non-Catholic Christians as individuals claiming "infallibility" when it comes to interpreting the Bible?
There was a thread recently (Vampire Logic?), now removed, that addressed this issue. Imho, it's a valid connection. Thanks for remembering trisham. Here's Fr. Euteneuer's "Vampire Logic" It is contained also in a [PRAYER] thread Discernment of Harry Potter and Twilight for the sake of our children.
Thank you, mlizzy!
Scripture says that Jesus told his disciples that what they declared bound on Earth would be bound in heaven, and what they declared loosed on Earth would be loosed in heaven. Since we believe the Pope is the Successor of Peter, what went for Peter, goes for the Pope.
Upon request. a Marriage Tribunal investigates whether or not the SACRAMENT of Matrimony was valid. If it wasn't valid, either party is free to receive that Sacrament, again. The state has already declared the marriage dissolved, the Church doesn't do that.
Interestingly, John Calvin felt the same way as Martin Luther.
What does shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach mean?
What does shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach mean?
May you know peace through the NAME of Jesus the Messiah.
shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
Thats beautiful ... thank you.
“I am quitting Anne Rice, but I am not quitting Rice; it’s actually delicious with Black Beans and Tomatoes.”
You are great! Thank you for making me laugh today!
I hope I am saying this kindly: you mentioned you were divorced and were investigating having another church wedding and were asked for $400. What would you be willing to pay for 6 months of someone’s time as they do the proper investigation into your situation, mail forms to all the parties involved and witnesses, study the answers on the returned forms and file them with the appropriate offices, meet with the individuals involved and compile a valid history for you that proves to church leaders that you should be allowed to remarry in the church and they should bless your new union?
I would feel that $400 was a small amount to do the lengthy, necessary fact checking and make my situation right in the eyes of God and my church leaders.
I hope I have not offended you. I am just looking at it from a different angle. You were the one in the throes of a very sad situation. I hope it all worked out.

Do you ever tire of trying to start a fight?
Very well put! Thank you. I’m sick of people berating the Church because it’s “rules” are too inconvenient for them
18 If the world hate you, know that it has hated me before you. 19 If you had been of the world, the world would love its own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20 Remember my word that I said to you: The servant is not greater than his master. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they have kept my word, they will keep yours also. 21 But all these things they will do to you for my name’s sake: because they know not him that sent me. 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin: but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 He that hates me hates my Father also. 24 If I had not done among them the works that no other man has done, they would not have sin: but now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father. 25 But that the word may be fulfilled which is written in their law: they hated me without cause. 26 But when the Paraclete comes, whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he shall give testimony of me. 27 And you shall give testimony, because you are with me from the beginning.

‘I’d pipe down and save my venom for the individual rather than broad brush a group, namely Protestants, that you HATE’
I was a protestant. I simply call them as I see them. Mainstream protestants voted for Obama too.
Aaah, how nice. Makes one wonder if her highly publicized return to the Catholic Church and her book about Jesus weren't all a big publicity ruse and her comments, these comments, planned as part-deux, they seem even more a slam at Catholicism (buy my books, Ann says!) than even Christianity in general. Pandora's box indeed. Maybe she wants to launch a new religion like others such as Hubbard...
This is one thing I can agree on. It's like Polanski conjuring up a lifetime of evil when he made Rosemary's Baby.
IOW she is pimping her new book.
I dont remember appointing Martin Luther or John Calvin as my Pope.
